What Is Uncapped Range?
An uncapped range keeps the nuts and near-nut hands in it even after a series of calls or checks, which forces opponents to respect the possibility of a monster hand on later streets. This is common for the preflop raiser, who can continue to represent hands like sets, straights, or better throughout a hand.
Examples
A preflop 3-bettor's range remaining uncapped on the river, still containing sets and two-pair combinations.
A player who has raised every street holding an uncapped range that could include the nuts.
Strategy Tips
Recognize which player in a hand has the uncapped range -- typically the aggressor -- and factor that into how much you're willing to bluff or overbet into them. Use range asymmetry to your advantage: when your range is uncapped and an opponent's is capped, overbetting can be highly effective since they can't have enough strong hands to comfortably call. Keep your own range uncapped when possible by occasionally slowplaying strong hands, rather than always betting them, which prevents opponents from confidently exploiting your checks.
