What Is Range Advantage?
Range advantage considers a player's entire range of possible hands rather than just the nut portion, distinguishing it from nut advantage. A player often holds range advantage as the preflop aggressor on boards that favor higher cards, since their range is weighted toward strong starting hands, while the caller's range includes more speculative, lower-value holdings. Range advantage typically justifies a higher continuation-betting frequency.
Examples
As the preflop raiser, he held a clear range advantage on the Ace-high flop, allowing a high-frequency continuation bet.
On a low, connected board, the range advantage often shifts toward the preflop caller instead of the raiser.
Strategy Tips
Identify which player's range fits the board texture better before deciding on continuation betting frequency.
