River

The river is dealt after the turn betting round concludes, completing the five-card community board. It's followed by a final round of betting and, if more than one player remains, the showdown. Because no more cards will come, river decisions are based on complete information about the board, making them purely about hand strength and opponent modeling rather than equity realization.

Reassess your hand's actual showdown value on the river, since drawing equity no longer matters once all cards are out. Use polarized betting ranges on the river, since medium-strength hands generally prefer to check rather than bet into an uncertain range. Consider your opponent's entire betting line across all previous streets when deciding whether to call, raise, or fold on the river. Practice hand-reading specifically for river spots, since this is where the most decisive, highest-stakes decisions typically occur.
