What Is Table Selection?
Table selection is widely considered one of the single biggest factors in a player's long-term win rate, often mattering more than small strategic edges in individual hands. Skilled players actively seek out tables with weaker, more recreational players ('fish') and avoid tables dominated by tough, aggressive regulars ('sharks').

Strategy Tips
Prioritize table selection before every session -- even a small skill edge is magnified enormously when playing against weaker opposition. Use available tools, such as a HUD in online poker or simple observation in live poker, to identify loose, passive players and gravitate toward their tables. Don't be afraid to leave a table once it gets tougher, for example after weaker players bust or leave. Balance table selection with reasonable game availability -- being overly selective can mean fewer hands played and less overall profit.
