What Is Protection Bet?
Protection bets are typically made with a currently strong but vulnerable hand, such as an overpair on a two-tone board, to prevent opponents with flush or straight draws from seeing a free card. By betting, the player forces drawing hands to pay a price for their outs, reducing the draw's overall expected value even when it eventually hits.
