What Is Outs?
Counting outs is fundamental to calculating your equity and pot odds in a hand. A commonly used shortcut, the "rule of 4 and 2," multiplies your outs by 4 with two cards to come or by 2 with one card to come to estimate your percentage chance of hitting. Not all outs are guaranteed winners, since opponents may hold hands that also improve or already beat your resulting hand.

Counting both his straight and flush draw outs, she had 15 total outs, roughly a 54% chance to hit by the river.
Strategy Tips
Always count your outs carefully before making a pot odds decision, and use the rule of 4 and 2 for a quick equity estimate. Discount outs that might give your opponent an even stronger hand, such as a flush draw when the board is already paired. Combine outs from multiple draws, like a straight and flush draw together, to accurately assess your total equity.
