Poker Rooms in North Carolina
North Carolina's poker scene is concentrated entirely at two Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians properties in the western mountains, both operated in partnership with Caesars Entertainment under the Harrah's brand. The flagship Cherokee property has a 25-table WSOP poker room operating nearly around the clock, drawing players from across the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. The newer Valley River property in Murphy added 10 more tables in 2024 following a $275 million expansion, solidifying the EBCI as the only legal live poker option in the state.
Legal Framework
North Carolina permits tribal gaming exclusively on federally recognized Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) lands under a compact authorized by IGRA. The EBCI operates two casino properties — Harrah's Cherokee and Harrah's Cherokee Valley River — both featuring WSOP-branded poker rooms. The Catawba Nation opened a temporary casino (Two Kings) under a separate federal authorization in 2021, though its temporary venue does not currently offer live poker. The full permanent Two Kings Casino Resort is scheduled for 2027.
