What Is Aggression Factor (AF)?
Aggression Factor quantifies a player's overall aggression level by comparing proactive actions (bets and raises) to passive ones (calls). A low AF (below 1) suggests a passive, calling-oriented player, while a high AF (above 3) indicates an aggressive player who frequently bets and raises rather than calling. AF is often paired with VPIP and PFR to build a fuller picture of a player's style, such as identifying a loose-aggressive (LAG) or tight-aggressive (TAG) approach.
Examples
A player with an AF of 4.5 and high VPIP is likely a loose-aggressive player who bluffs frequently.
An AF close to 0.5 suggests a calling station who rarely bets or raises on their own initiative.
Strategy Tips
Use aggression factor alongside VPIP and PFR rather than in isolation, since a high AF only matters when combined with a wide voluntary-play range. Against high-AF opponents, tighten your calling ranges and look for spots to check-raise or trap since they bet frequently. Against low-AF opponents, bet and raise more freely for value since they are unlikely to fight back. Remember AF stats also need a reasonable sample size, typically 100+ hands, to be reliable.
