Is short deck more profitable than regular hold’em?
It can be, for two reasons that both come down to population rather than the format itself. The pools are smaller and skew heavily toward players who found the game through live high-stakes streams or through a casino crossover, so the average opponent has done less study than the average opponent in a comparable hold’em game. Solver coverage of 6+ is also thinner, so well-constructed ante-game ranges are less widely shared. The offsetting factor is variance: swings are considerably larger than in hold’em at the same stakes, so a bankroll of 50 buy-ins that feels adequate for full-deck cash games is thin for short deck.
