Yeah, you heard it first from me: decrease your variance by increasing your winrate. A couple of disclaimers. First, "variance" is actually not a "thing." I guess you should call the "thing" dispersion. Variance is just a measure of that. "Decreasing variance" would be something like "making ... Read More
How to Deal: Big Wins and Big Losses To many of you on the outside, a professional online poker player’s lifestyle looks glamorous: we work from home, have a lot of money, and can wake up at 1pm on any given day and not have to answer to anyone. We have it easy. This article is for those... Read More
Despite the fact that my main games for the last couple years have extremely high variance, I had not had a losing month for over two years up until January. A lot of this is a function of anal game selection and playing a ton of hands each month. Since I started playing for a living... Read More
I’ve been watching some BlackRain79 vids over on another training site (shhhh…), he’s one of the most consistent and successful winners at the micros ever, and he’s produced a series called “crushing the micros 6max” where he works from 2nl through 5nl to 10nl and focusses on really sound fundamentals which he basically never deviates from ever. He hunts out fish relentlessly and doesn’t even bother pla ... (continued)
So I just had a horrible losing session. Finished many BIs below EV, got B-slapped by the worst fish on the internet 6 or 7 times in situations where I was value-betting every street with the best hand then getting rivered by guys who’d been calling me down with shit. Then got it in for stacks with KK vs QQ and got felted when he flopped a Q, then spiked TPTK in a 3bet pot agains ... (continued)
Hey guys So I ended up down a bit on the week bankroll wise but it didn’t feel like it because of last sundays success. For the limited amount of volume I did put in, I made a ton of deep runs, resulting in some close calls! However getting in the top 50 is not a recipe for success. Its all about that win baby! I know its coming. One thing that has been gratifying has been my variance ... (continued)
As I sit here typing this blog that doubtless nobody else will read, I have blood oozing from my knuckles from where I meticulously lined my computer chair up, took a deep breath and jammed two or three of the hardest punches I could muster into the plastic backing whilst exhaling and screaming “F*CK” at the top of my lungs. Yes my friends, I have almost certainly tilted my balls off this evening, ... (continued)

I do run pretty shitty right now but I feel I play OK and that what matters… The hands from around a month of play (PLO10 and PLO30) BTW, why the fuck I need to have a downswing every single time I try to move up? Guess, at which place in a graph I moved to PLO30? :D It is almost funny but it happened every time I tried to move up in stakes during my poker carrier. I am sure it is not because of amount of money on a table because I already played NL100. NL50 was my main game for a long time.
Villain was openjamming something like A2+,K2+,Q2+,J2+,22+ and just about everything else he was limping and then jamming the flop if he caught a piece. I thought my tens looked pretty gooood until I came upon the mighty 72o. Now write it out a thousand times. So yesterday when I got dealt JJ, QQ, JJ heads up in three consecutive hands against a 80/25 fish and he had king-rag offsuit each time and rivered a straight each time, that’s just all part of the fun of poker and I should be glad because someone that bad just wouldn’t play at all if he didn’t get lucky some time ... (continued)
Been playing as much as possible while leading an active social life. I have been playing my B-game I’d say overall since I last posted. Although, some of this could be attributed to new postflop concepts being incorporated into my game. I am playing as a slight loser since I decided to take up poker again. Nothing that a $600 100% sign-up bonus and 27% rakeback can’t fix! My first coaching sessi ... (continued)
