October: Coaching, it's good for you

2011-10-30 12:15 PM

For like a month and a half ago, I posted this thread in the DC microstakes forums, where I ask how I should become better without paying for coaching. I was probably in a massive downswing, and I wasn’t paying enough attention to stacksizes and some other important stuff that I do now. I tried for like 2 weeks after this thread, to watch videos, take notes and so on. But still ... (continued)

Understand PSB or big bets at 10NL and under...

2011-06-20 05:30 PM

After stepping back into 10NL – after a 4 month break with a better game, one thing for sure has become apparent. At all levels of micro stake poker that I have encountered thus, there is no small edge that you exploit against opponents to optimize maximum value from a hand. I have read and watched numerous peeps discuss finding that small edge against an opponent an ... (continued)

Time to suck it up, take the hits and move up!

2011-06-05 05:57 PM

When I first started this blog in Feb 2011 I was messing about at 10NL. And now I’m back. But what I’ve found about moving up is that it is this kind of weird experience where you expect to keep crushing and things just stay the same as they were. What I think it actually is, is like a boxer stepping up in class. You know where a boxer or MMA guy is good and has put ... (continued)

The Forgetting Curve

2011-06-01 01:31 AM

How would you like to remember everything you ever learn? Sounds too good to be true, I know, and probably impossible. Besides, I don’t wanna remember some of the random stuff I see on the internet. But there is a way to remember most or at least way more of the stuff you want to know. At the beginning of the 20th century, Hermann Ebbinghaus did some major research into memory and more spec ... (continued)

Finally...

2011-05-10 10:42 AM

I finally stopped thinking about it and did it. I just finished paying for my first coaching session on DeucesCracked. After floundering at $10NL for the last year off and on, I feel like I need the guidance of a more experienced player. Don’t get me wrong, the forums are great, but a little incentive for someone to benefit from helping you, goes a lot further than adding one more post to your total po ... (continued)

Week finished!

2011-04-10 06:32 PM

The week is finished, the tables are closed and some money lost … A week like this is does really tear a micro-heart. The first part went as mentioned pretty well. Then the craziness began. I kept getting KK versus AA, QQ versus KK. The sets got no value, top pair got check/raised turn. Didn’t hit any draw. And a easy way to put these last days in a nutshell, is to show you this hand. Before readin ... (continued)

Wednesday rungood

2011-04-06 09:51 PM

Wednesday, no breakeven, rather more 3 buy ins up almost. Flopped some big hands, and people always will try to bluff at it. Funny when you once in a while meet up with one of those. The last days had been good sessions, so I’m looking forward to complete this week of playing poker.Hope I’ll get in my goal of number of hands! Then I can look forward and see how discipline and concentration pays of ... (continued)

Happy Tuesday!

2011-04-05 09:22 PM

Finally, the happy Tuesday arrived. Played two sessions two day, one in the morning before driver lesson and one in the evening after practice. The first session went well, and made a buy in. This was played while laying in my bed and getting stressed by the factor that I had to wake up soon. The other session was at the evening, and wow I finally ran hot! Monday blues ...

2011-04-04 09:56 PM

Monday, the first day of week. The day that gives the core feeling about how the week will go. This Monday was a blue one, definitively at the poker tables. Loaded up eight tables, with a decent fish at every table. Sat down, waited for some hands and Hold Em Manager recognized the stuck 10 NL regulars. Then after some ten-twenty hands, I spotted the betting pattern of my neighbor fish. Minbet means ... (continued)

Week micro schedule

2011-04-03 10:58 PM

This week is a relaxing one. Had a lot of tests last week, so this one is booked by soccer exercise, driving lessons and some penny hunting. I decided to put up a schedule, to let me play a X amount of hands. So I could get in a decent number of hands this week. The average number of hands per month so far seems to be around 30 000. So that will be my goal at 10NL. 30 000/4 = 7500 hands per week ... (continued)

Hangover session!

2011-04-02 12:44 PM

So was at a party last night, and woke up pretty hungover. Decided to play some 10NL, my regular stake, to try to earn some moneeeey. And guess what, I ran like the God of Poker and my weird play worked out! I flopped so many sets and got the most value out of every hand! So I played pretty much optimally. Example of how taking weird lines works out on regulars: Full Tilt Poker $10.00 No Limit H ... (continued)

So after playing 33,000 hands in March I ended one buy in up. That is after being down 10, so I made a total of $150 included rakeback and winnings in a tournament at Stars. Pretty bad month overall … Played 32000 hands. bb/100: 0.48 VP: 22 PFR: 20 3B: 6 SQZ: 6 Good that my vpip/pfr is increasing. 10NL and 3bet

2011-03-21 05:39 PM

So I’m stuck at 10NL. Been around $200-$300 all month, and I can’t really seem to break through. My problems are showdown winnings, not 3betting polarized ranges against regs, and depolarized ranges against fish. A early problem of mine, was being scared of monsters under the bed. Stopped barreling the turn enough, but now I got my groove back. Consolidation

2011-02-27 08:42 AM

For a brief spell, it seemed like nothing I could do at 10NL was wrong, but as a beginner one thing I should not have underestimated is the enormity of the gulf between when I am playing my best and when I am not. As a result, in a few short sessions I was able to drop 8BI and give back all the profits from my good spell. The thing is that this time I could see exactly what had happened – tilt + not wa ... (continued)

10NL vs 2NL

2011-02-16 11:39 AM

A few interesting things have happened recently. Firstly, I decided to just jump from 2NL to 10NL. I had originally promised myself that I would grind 2NL for a while until I was sure that I was doing the right thing most of the time and my decisions were +EV, but then I changed my thinking and decided to play the stakes I was rolled for where I was going to learn the most, and that’s 10NL at the moment. ... (continued)

Hey to all that are reading, I have been playing poker for 2 years in April. I have been playing micro stakes all that times somewhere between 10NL and 50NL. It changes like the season’s. Which is not good – but I haven’t busted my roll once in that time. I decided that this year I would start writing a blog – about my poker experiences, a journeys log of the brutality of it all ... (continued)

Really have some mental issues with 10NL

2010-06-24 08:53 AM

Another nasty session at 10NL last night. I was definately rattled by it. I started taking a look at the 50bb tables on Stars, because that seems to be where the fish hang out. It’s not so bad I guess. Feels a lot more like 5NL. Actually sometimes it feels like 2NL. I dropped 150bb last night, as I had to cut the session off as it I was getting quite frustrated. Huge Downswing = Lost half my roll

10NL and the 20BI mental block

2009-11-03 12:45 AM

As I’ve mentioned before, I used to take random shots at 10NL before actually getting to the proper 20BI for that stake and I think it made me play with “scared money”. I noticed this once I took my first shot at 10NL WITH 20BI for that stake today and it went very smoothly. I didn’t have the same worries I had previously when calling with marginal made hands finished up 1BI with made it just that much better. Lets hope I can keep running well.

I’m taking a couple of days off playing, as I mentioned in my last post, so I thought it would also be good to go back and review my fundamentals, so I’m re-watching tubasteve and n0whereman’s awesome series ‘From The Ground Up’. It’s probably been the most helpful video series I’ve watched so far on DC. I LOVE episode 3, where the guys go into so much depth about c-betting, board ... (continued)

The Full Tilt Switch

2009-10-26 04:42 PM

After some consderation (about 10 minutes worth) I’ve decided to switch all $240 of my micro bankroll over from Pokerstars to Full Tilt, to benefit from the softer games and the 27% rakeback deal I secured from RakeBrain.com. Hopefully the rakeback will help me grind up a bankroll quicker – looking at PokerTracker, over the 60k hands that I’ve played online since the end of July, I’ve p ... (continued)

May Review and June Goals

2009-06-01 03:04 PM

Well may wasn’t all that great of a month for me. I finished the month over but not by much. I did well at 5NL but the shots I took at 10NL kind of cut my profits pretty badly. I think I’ve developped some bad habits that work at 5NL but get shot down pretty fast at 10NL. You can play 5NL very loose passive preflop and get away with it. Villains will call you down with worse a lot of the time. ... (continued)

Knowing when to Fold

2009-05-12 02:10 PM

Originaly posted: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 Haven’t been able to play much until this week so I really didn’t have much to post. Last time I posted I was on a bit of a downswing. I know it was a little early to do s ... (continued)
