Just saw this article tweeted by JoeTall.

Apparently Lock is leaving Merge and has bought the Cake network.

Thoughts?

This seems like a really bad idea if true.

Bad idea for Lock but they probably can't screw Cake up anymore than it already is. If the Calvin Ayre story is accurate, we might get some entertainment value out of all of this. I just hope that the Lock players continue to have access to their funds.

Merge doesn't have that much traffic as it is, well compared to most I guess it has a bit, but more is better. I'd hate for lock to take many players from the merge network.

The Merge network should be ok traffic wise if Lock leaves. I'd be more worried about traffic on Lock.

how does one skin buy up the whole Cake network? i don't know what's more worrisome, that Cake can be bought so easily or that Lock is taking away that much resources from the Merge network.

i was going to put my money on Intertops next but now i'm not so sure.

I've seen it written that Lock is the largest Merge skin, it would be nice to know what % of the Merge player pool is on Lock.

I downloaded a Cake skin once to check it out and the software was absolutely horrendous. I hope Lock plans on a huge software upgrade if they expect to succeed.

I'm also concerned about this. I can't imagine that this is going to be good for anyone involved. Being that I'm on merge, I have no idea what the best plan of action would be...just quit all together?

Just found this article, where the source alleges that Lock Poker comprises 40% of the Merge traffic.

I saw that too. However, that equates to about 4800 players at peak hours. Add that to the fact that they say they aren't going to combine player pools and what does that leave? Another shitty option for US players. Would be interested to hear what people playing on Lock are planning on doing?

I've never found Lock Poker or the Cake network very trustworthy so I would definitely not play there if I were an american. Sick if it's really going to cost Merge 40% of it's traffic.

I'm not sure how they calculate those numbers in the lobby. Pokerscout shows the peak number of cash players at 2516.

I wonder how big of a blow this will be to the Merge "economy" if every Lock player decides to leave.

It would seem to me that online poker is becoming an increasingly poor idea for a US player, if that is at all possible. I requested a 1500.00 Cake cashout about a month ago, and will be expecting it to arrive some time in 2020.

I doubt that Merge will take a huge hit player wise. The Merge Network is still going to be, by far, the best place for US players to play. I doubt that Lock players will simply follow Lock and abandon Merge. Also many players have accounts on more than one skin. I have an account on Lock but I never use it. It only takes a few minutes for someone to create an account on one of the other skins. Since Lock has quick cashouts it's easier for players to transfer their funds. And if Lock decides to freeze player's accounts they might as well kiss their business good-bye.

Annette Obrestad just signed on as a Lock Pro about 2 weeks ago. She must be pissed right now.
