Most Americans are starting to realize how wrong things have gone in this country. That is why the Tea Parties arose. When hundreds of thousands of people are protesting in the streets, you can bet that there are a lot of people who feel displeased with the direction of the country. A recent poll put the number who thought the country was going in the wrong direction at 70 percent. Still, I doubt that things will change until there is a total system breakdown because there are too many people and corporations with too much power invested in the current system. I never thought I would leave this country but now, I think that I am 80 percent to move. Some people on here have asked what the upside of this poker crackdown is. i believe that the upside is that if you move to somewhere else, you will not be here when the dollar collapses and that currency crisis is going to be a total disaster in which most people will lose almost everything. It is really so sad for a country that was supposed to be built on liberty. Now, the USA is nowhere near free, let alone the freest. Even China allows people to play poker! What a day!

I'm curious, anyone know in how many other countries it's illegal to play online poker?

Unfortunately I guess, in most. Even in Austria / Swiss, that are rumored to have it legalized, that´s not true. In Germany it´s illegal, in Austria you are allowed to play only on sites from the state-controlled company (win2day) afaik and in Swiss it´s illegal as well, even though you won´t have to be scared if you get caught, because precisely the companies that run the services will be punished, not the players itself.

any euros has transfered ps/ft to neteller since saturday and allready gotten money on neteller?!

Withdrew some K from FTP on Friday, on MB though (not neteller) and it showed up immediately. No information on neteller, but honestly, I wouldn´t think the money is lost, don´t panic. There´s chaos overall, I guess, but computers don´t forget, once the dust settled your money will certainly correctly show up again. Hopefully that happens soon.

@the rest: I guess, we´re a wonderful community here, where people from all over the world come together to talk about the game we all love. Although some people made posts that didn´t sound very sensitive, I don´t think they were meant mean in any way. I feel with all american poker players and I´m sure, any DC´er will.

Let´s be (and stay) friends. The situation is bad enough already.

So I don't want to sound like all the other posters in the earlier part of this thread, but I have been in the process of ID check with FTP since last weekend. My account was locked when I tried making a withdraw and they requested my license and utility bill. I sent it to them last Monday and they said the copy wasn't acceptable and asked me to fax them. I did that on Tuesday, and have not heard back since. I have tried emailing support twice and both times the email has been deemed undeliverable. Any advice? I have sent emails to .com and .eu I know I can't cashout anyway being a US player, but it would be nice to know I still have an account and that my funds are at least sitting there Poke Tongue

Many people feel the media and elections here in the US are rigged to favor the guy that has more money. And right now the guy that had more money wants to have more control over us, poker is not the only thing going wrong for us, complete subversion seems to be happening all around us as things that have been standards for 30+ years are now being shut down and most of it is hidden from the public eye via the media.
Because I found out about this today it is freshest on my mind; public hunting and recreational lands spanning 30,000 acres, that have been public for over 60 years, are being shutdown for military use, most people even people living next to these lands have no idea it is happening, but it is just an example of the kinds of things going on behind our backs. The shutdown of poker is likely more about our government illegally obtaining our money contained on the site, it's also seems to be a favorite past time of the past the current and previous administration to strip away as many rights as possible.

re: american attitude of the "best" country. I see it just as I see any other prejudice, nationalism is saying "my country is better than yours", its like racism saying "my race is better than yours", its a broad, ignorant, and particularly useless statement. By and large people have prejudices because of lack of education (there are some exceptions of course), the majority of our country is under-educated, I would venture to guess this is true in most countries. The majority give the entire country a bad image.

The people posting here on the DC forum from various countries do not represent the average citizen from their country. I'd bet all of us are well above average intelligence and education level. So even though the majority of our citizens probably do have prejudice issues, try not to let that affect your opinion of the people posting here. I would hope that I / we are a little more enlightened than all that.

This is ridiculous. America is the way it is because most people don't understand politics and aren't very smart. Tea baggers, progressives, whoever just don't get it. Unfortunately not knowing what they're talking about doesn't stop most people. The result is a public that rants about the wrong things. There's no point in talking about it here.

Related to poker, most of the country is either bible thumpers, believes poker/gambling is shady, or doesn't care.

Americans are awesome, my house mate is American. Some of my best mates here in Thailand are American. Its just how badly the government has fucked things up for the average US citizen that is disheartening, especially because the constitution is (or was) the greatest political document ever written and that made the USA so great. Now almost all of that is gone, and its no surprise that things have gotten worse in the US (and abroad) as a consequence.

Interesting how smart and educated people resort to prejudice and bias ideological name calling, isn't it?

America is the way it is, because it has become an entitlement society, and as a result, continues to irresponsibly raise the debt ceiling and tax the f*** out of everything in sight. This shutdown is about $3billion the US government wants. They want their piece of the pie. It is about money.

IMO, it is not really "educated" to believe Eric Holder (DoJ) and Obama are about anything else.....besides changing society to fit their Marxist vision. If Bush was in office today, he would be catching hell by everyone. WHY do Obama/Holder always get a free pass by the supposedly educated ideologists? Not a fair playing field. I believe in holding everyone responsible -- left and right. NO FREE PASSES.

For the record, I have never met anyone from any country that did not want to believe that their country is the best. It is perfectly human (nothing to do about education). Usually, if someone does not think their country is the best, they want to go to the U.S. to live (and then not go home). And then, they normally still want to wave the flag of their home country. It is human.

This thread is taking a wrong turn.

Some idiot on Gizmodo.com put this comment, I actually thought it was funny:

I totally agree with this. What stops an Al Qaeda operative from opening up pokerstars from his cave and "losing" $50,000 to one of his minions here in the US? Then the guy uses the money to do whatever evil crap he's been ordered to do.

Until the government keeps track of all the high rollers and makes sure its legitimate (which I think is impossible, because those offshore corporations would never allow that), then this decision should stand.

I didn't need a case in point, but agree this thread needs to get back on track.

very seldomly read something in a pokerforum that i think is so close to 100% the truth, even more so though having a good portion of subjective opinion in it

I think american players are getting what they deserve. Their selfishness and lack of capacity to think beyond their own short term interest was mind numbing. I include 2p2 in this infamous group. They were unable, an unwilling, to use their big audience and nfluence in any serious effort to get things done. I made a thread expressing my concerns about this months ago that got locked http://www.deucescracked.com/forums/4-General-Discussion/topics/231751-2p2-forums-going-down-the#post_1907391 and now the facts are saying I was right.

You guys got what you deserve. Stop whining like little bitches.

I think some of you guys are blaming the wrong people. You should blame the poker sites. If the claims FBI is making turn out to be correct then the management of FT, PS and UB really fucked up.
