Do we really expect him to bet here with a medium PP?
I would assume people would check it.
edit: well atleast this guy did
I don't think his play is good, as I said in the vid, but I think it's fairly common that taggish players bet medium hands on the turn when the PFR checks, even though they will not get called by worse. They probably bet just because they want to protect their hand/don't face a hard river decision.

88 hand - I am usualy inclined to cbet small in these spots. They both limp/called so unlikely they hold a strong ace and theres no FDs on board. My thoughts would be to stab at the flop , hope to take it down , fold out there combined 50% equity and give up if called.
Probably a decent play. But if you bet you probably don't fold out better hands or get called by worse, so the only value of betting is protection. And betting for protection is not really great unless we know for sure that we have the best hand here very often, since the value of protecting our equity share is just a small part of the current pot and a potential cbet will be a big part of the current pot (prob. 2/3 or so).

AK hand - How happy are we getting AK in vs this guy who has not been very aggressive and i assume is his first 4bet ? i generaly look to flat with AK preflop unless theres some history between us or ive seen him call 3bets oop , 4bet/fold or 4bet/call somewhat light. Below 200nl AK can be difficult hand to play imo.
Not really happy, and calling and 3 betting is really close. He is opening 5x, and there is a limper, so there is two times as much money in the pot than normal, so I decided that trying to take this down preflop would be worth risking my stack with AK since it has good equity against a super tight range anywany, and there is a small probability that villain is getting frustrated by my 3betting and playing back here.

euro sites != euro tables on stars. still looking foward to this, but some live play on party/ipoker/betfair etc would be great.
agreed, and im not even european. i was looking forward to something non-stars, non FT just for the sake of variety. then I open it up and sure enough, it's on stars.
still a good vid by all means.

Enjoyed the vid Hielko.
One thing I noticed though is that you played a very straightforward value game - I don't think I saw you barrel, cr bluff a flop or semi-bluff draw + pair on the turn or whatnot...most of your decisions seemed to be standard value bet decisions about whether you were in good shape against standard ranges and in terms of the FToP.
So my question is whether you think this kind of game is enough nowadays at 100NL? I can't get it out of my head that I need to be doing more than just betting my good hands and find myself cr'ing scary boards for TAGs ranges and so forth....but I don't really know if it is necessary and whether it's just FPS.
Thanks. Would be nice to see more of your play at iPoker.

I'm crushing 400NL playing like this, so yes; straight forward poker is all you need 99% of the time. But people knowing my game better would know that I basically could bluff in every spot. But very often I'm just giving up, and only bluffing when I have a good reason to do so.

But how do you get this image without showing up with bluffs in every spot? Do you think its just a thing that people know who you are and respect you so "know" you are good enough to be balanced and be able to bluff in every spot without you actually having to do it?
