DD, the devteam and I worked up a little surprise for those of you who frequent the secret HQ and member videos communities on DC. If you have a subscription on DC, you can now visit the member videos section of DC and upload videos to share with each other. The files are uploaded to our Amazon S3 storage and distributed across the globe by their Cloudfront CDN, so after you upload a video members from across DC will be able to download at the lightning-fast speeds you've come to expect from us.

The section itself is pretty bare-bones for now -- we don't have any fancy uploading widgets in place for you to see how long the upload is taking (these are notoriously tough to program given the constraints we have, so it's unlikely we'll ever have one), but the uploading itself is very easy to do. Just choose a file, go to http://www.deucescracked.com/member_videos. You'll see the files you've uploaded (right click to get the URL to paste to your DC amigos), and you can upload new files from there as well. No more megaupload waiting times!

Please use this service for sharing poker instructional materials that you have created with other DC members. Hopefully this makes life a bit easier when it comes to uploading and sharing videos of your play with each other. I'll be making some videos showing ways to do this with opensource tools.

One thing to keep in mind: uploading big files can take a while, depending on your internet connection. If you've got a 100mb video and your browser doesn't budge for 30 minutes, that's expected behavior -- depending on how clogged the tubes are in your neck of the woods a big video will take significantly longer (an hour or more) to upload than it would to download. That's just the nature of the beast.

Let us know if you encounter any bugs or problems. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for ways we can improve it.

Am I right in thinking this is for paid members only to view and comment on? as well as upload?

Only subscribers can upload videos but anyone will be able to click the link to download.

Quick note, are you guys planning on making the link available from the main page. I have it bookmarked for now but it seems kinda hidden in here and I think most people are still gonna be using megaupload simply cause they may not be "how u say" (french accent) , computer literate.

Yeah, right now because it's the first version of it we haven't really incorporated it with the rest of the site, but eventually it will find its way as a widget underneath the "My DC" area most likely and be much easier to find. Basically, I'd consider this version an advanced beta as we'd like to see what people have to say before we develop much more around it.

Testing it now, seems alright.

Would be nice with some kinda status bar on the upload, I understand it takes a while, especially when I'm a noob at video recording, editing and recording so the filesize is just ridiculous. But would be nice with some kinda progress bar.

Yeah, I'd love to be able to do a progress bar but they are very tough given the infrastructure we're uploading to (directly to Amazon S3 as opposed to being routed to a server we have more control over). It's something I'm continuing to look into but it's proven to be pretty tough to do...

It requires a lot more work than just uploading videos; we've developed some of the pieces for it but it's a pretty long-term project, so the answer is yes, but not for a long while.

When I tried to upload via Chrome I got the SSL security warning, looked like it was still going to the amazon cluster but the addresses didn't match thus the warning. IE 7 was fine. Just letting you know in case hadn't come up before. I'll try it again in chrome a bit later and see if I get the same result

Some folks and I are starting a study group soon where we're going to go all late night coaching on some hands. I'm thinking about recording the audio. Would I be able to upload that here as well?
