Another aspect to fewer tables is that most people think they are much better players than they really are. Sure, if you're deconstructing a hand in a DC post you can look really smart and determine the correct play. However, if you're playing 12+ tables, you can't be absorbing all of the information and going through intricate thought processes on every hand. There's always going to be lost information/opportunity.

Autopiloting increases as the number of tables increase.

There is a certain point for every person where the value gained from adding tables is less than the value lost from less attention per table.

In my opinion, it's especially silly when people say they are playing 10+ tables at micro stakes. Why? If you're playing micros, you're most likely a new/poor player who is working to improve their game. (Almost) no one is sitting around grinding 12 tables of $5 or $10NL for fun.

So yea, I agree with your general assertion. Play fewer tables, pay more attention, and focus on developing and applying your fundamental understanding of the game.

you know, the day i started thinking i wanted to have some kind of mentor teaching me and have not found it yet. i did not see that i could have positive influence on myself and change. even today i repeat to make the same mistakes that are obvious to be bad. i always had been pretty messy for no reason, i didnt clean even though i loved it clean. today i sometimes am able to keep hold of my flat for a period of time.. until everything is a mess again.
this is only one symptom of me not taking care of myself. in poker it is the same, i keep repeating the same stupid mistakes alll of the time, because i do not realize how change is possible.

sorry for the dealy in response here. A few things; you say that you cant play 2-3 tables to get out of micros quick. I dont agree, My mindset-coach has a routine where you should try and play 2-4 tables for a certain amount of time, not sure how long. And like 90% of the players that did this said they liked it more than multitabling And that they earned more or the same whilst beeing able to play longer sessions. The same was true for me when I moved up, never, never never played more than 4 tables. BR management etc is individual but if you are not living on poker like 30bi and a very flexible mindset for moving up or down in stakes is prob the best way to go for alot of people, that could be a very long discussion tho :)

At microstakes lot of players have pretty many exploitable tendencies like being too tight, too loose, calling down 3-bets too often, etc. If you are 1-tabling,it's easy to recognize those tendencies and play out your opponents, you can be focused and develop faster - from this point of view I agree. The problem is you NEED to multitable those stakes otherwise it takes forever to build up a roll. While multitabling however, the only way to recognize each player's biggest weaknesses is to have a HUD running. You can't beat 6 tables without a HUD I think.
Or do you think it would be a better idea to apply a more aggressive BR management and move up in stakes a little bit one-tabling?Without a HUD?

I am not sure I agree tbh. I think that alot of players at micro/lowstakes dont even need stats. If you dont use stats it forces you to think alot more and to be absolutely focused. Also it doesnt make you into a robot wich i find that most players play like at those stakes. And they dont really know some super important concepts, or actually, they might know the concept but they are so comfortable with generalizing and backing it up with stats. Id say that stats only tell half the story and if you dont learn that at lowstakes, you need to learn them at higher stakes, and that can be very costly. Worst case scenario you might now even get to higher stakes.

I started to work with implementing routines in my daily life. I have a bunch of ecercises I do on a daily basis, to improve focus, happiness and a bunch of stuff like that. Imaging cutting down your time when you are playing tilted or unfocused with like, 90%. I have also studied the mind by reading a bunch of books and articles, imo understanding Why something happens is the key if you want to change/improve.

At those stakes you playing HEM and stats are not that important as they are at microstakes.NL1k is a different world already, everybody there has more or less the same stats and high level of aggression.I don't play those stakes yet unfortunately.but have read a great book w/ title "Exploiting regulars".It's a really good, mindblowing read, you probably even have read it. The book focuses exclusively on NL600,unfortunately I don't remember the author but type title at "filecrop.com" and you'll find it.Best book and analysis I have ever read.
Cheers

yeah i mean it will def be possible to grind out 100-200nl for a semilong time but I dont think that 400nl+ will be to easy to beat. skills like tableselection, multiple sites etc will be crucial, and im very happy be working with my mental game since i think thats one major thing that will be more and more popular as games get tougher. And if I have been working on that 1-2 years before the majority I will have an edge there. Im no expert or anything but Ive seen games dry up a fair bit the last year but noone really knows i guess.

Did a tandem skydive myself a couple years back. Had exactly the same 'wtf was U thinking' moment in the plane when the door opened lol, but it was amazing.

Also, do you really think the money will dry up so much in poker in the immediate future? I'd have thought that despite poker training/more regs etc there will always be some fish lured by the latest Pokerstars ad, or the fact that someone from their country won the WSOP, and especially if the market in the US gets freed up won't that bring an influx of fish in due course? I'm really trying to be optimistic here ;)
