13k makeup. $1.8k score today

Well I'm still stuck from my prague trip, but I feel like im getting into a groove in plo8 mtts!

I won the 109 plo8 for 1800 and have had a string of small scores everyday to keep me going, I'm not sure on my actual roi but I would imagine im over qualified for these stakes.  : )

I've also started to stake a couple of people for different games with buyins going from $5 to $33 for mtts...  and its going really well!  Hopefully I can add more winning players to my stable sometime soon.

Year In review.

I was recently at EPT prague and Final Tabled two side events, but because they were small player fields I bubbled one in 9th place and min cashed the other when I got in 5th.

I spent 20 days in prague and only remember playing live for around 5 days, I even had a stretch of 4-5 days where I was too depressed to do anything other than sleep.  (Prague was really cold and dark...  which caused me to be depressed and get nothing done)

This year has been tough...   I'm not sure how much I made, but I feel like I have nothing to show for it.   I ran bad at almost all of my "shots" at highstakes plo8! and spent the rest of my time grinding midstakes to recover from the highstakes shots.  (Ive had like 20 -20ks and maybe 1 +20k day)

I know I can beat the highest plo8 games on my best days...  but I need to be a bit more selective with who I give action to at my highest stakes.

Ive decided to take 2013 to focus on midstakes and MTT's...  hopefully that will reduce variance and put some money in my pocket.

what are the best nlhe 6m videos?

Is it still possible to win at no limit hold em?

Yes!

Will I become a winner overnight?

NEVER

I have been having some problems with the lines im taking, mainly I'm being too hood.  I raised j9  on 924 rainbow vs an utg open from the button because I thought that nobody ever raises this board since you really only rep like 3 hands for value, but even raising any of those sets would probably be terrible.  I guess im still thinking in hi lo board texturers...  hopefully I break out of this soon!

My life goal is to reach 1/2 within 3 months, this means 12-15 hour days.  Studying as much as possible.  and getting hands in.

Does anyone have NLHE 6M videos to recommend???

Leaving behind plo8 and moving to nlhe, and childrens books?

Its time.

My whole poker career has been focused around a four card game that very few people play, and hardly every play for sizeable money.  (5/10+ PLO8 only runs for like 1k hands a day if the sky opens up.)

My good friend and roommate, kylejf on some sites, has focused on nlhe since we started playing together in our college common room and he makes a fair amount more than I do.  I have heard people say that the games are dead, nlhe is solved, and there is no money in poker because everyone is solid, but the fact is that fish love to play unlimited betting texas holdem.  While he plays games much higher on average, since WSOP hes been focusing on nl400 and is winning something like 10/100.

I dont want to say that I can be making that much, as Kyle Frey is one beast of a player, but I will be learning directly from the master himself.  If you have read some of my other blogs you have probably seen me talk about volume.  I'm not going to be shy about it, I get volume in.  When I wake up in the morning I stumble to my computer and load up tables and I just start to play.  There is no hesitation, no time to find distractions, and no time to waste.  I think this is the optimal way of doing it if you play for a living.

I will be transitioning to nlhe once I get my 200k vpp bonus on stars.

My plan is to start at .5/1 on super soft sites, and bumhunt amongst them.  I will only be playing on tracked sites for now!  I want to be able to keep a thorough database so that my roommate can analyze it with me and find all of my leaks.  For those of you that are already good players, you should consider bodog!  The plo8 games are among the softest on the internet and I can only asumme that the nlhe games are the same way.

An untracked site to avoid is paynorake / action poker.  They have been having cashout problems lately, and from what I can tell on 2+2 everleaf / minted poker is a huge scam.

If you've read this far, i am pleased to announce that I will be entering the world of publishing!  My friend wrote a childrens book and I will be publishing it!  We have some funding, but everything is starting to add up and I think we are going to go for a round of crowdsourcing on kickstarter!  If you have any experience with kickstarter leave a message in the comments section!

And lastly, I will try to update my blog here as much as possible on my way to nlhe glory.

Take care folks!

Over 100k hands in april, moving to amsterdam

Ive finally hit my grind till I puke bench mark with some room to spare.

I play around 6-8 tables of plo8 across every website on the internet that offers plo8, at 1-2 through 10-20.

Im making like 8k ish from my rakeback deals this month and im even getting in some volume on bodog (not tracked, no rakeback)

In other news my lease in canada is coming to an end, and I'm going to be moving to amsterdam for the maximum legnth of stay.  Which is 3 months, after that its off to london or something.  Ive decided to put everything else on hold in my life and push out as many (quality) hands of poker as possible this year.

Starting a Business. Next Week. or Bust

The title says it,

I'm giving the business world a shot.

FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS my heart has been set on starting a business, something that I could put all of my energy into that would give me a shot at being a millionaire before im 25.  And I think I have found what will do it for me.

Think OPENTABLE but for nightclubs; the competition is soft and the market is up for grabs.  Within a week I hope to start a company that will service one of the major players in the industry.

Ive reached a fork in the road where my vision of fair deal and the company's that I want to work with aren't on point and something has to happen.  I'm not sure how I was even considering taking their first offer but I know that I cant.  I was thinking that if I took their first offer to develop one city as a trial then I could renogiate once I proved myself.  (I was afraid to send a counter offer at first, until about an hour ago)

But I ran some numbers and realized that not only is it unfair to me, I would be fucked if I even attempted to entertain the ridculous offer in the first draft contract.  My margins arent high enough to the point where I could warrant taking on a huge amount of risk just to see a tiny return.  I might be rambling here, but I think I can do better and have to really push for a higher deal if I'm going to even attempt it.  Its one of things where you kind of have to risk the whole deal falling part in order to get a FAIR offer...   and if im seriously going into business then I need to make sure I dont fall for shitty deals and contracts that are 100% not in my favor.

My goal is to get to the point where I have developed around 10+ cities for this company, and for this kind of partnership between us to work they really need trust me / throw me a bone.  I know that they will make more money off my exhaustive efforts with a 20% cut then they would with another persons half ass attempt if they got a 50% cut.   So I'm just going to have stick to my guns and demonstrate to them how I will do the job better, and earn them more money.  If they want to risk making less than thats on their own heads.

end rant/

10k downswing, and starting a plo8 youtube chanel.

I'm not the first to say it, but the swings in four card games are kind of sick.  I took a one k roll up to 15k  and started playing 2/4, 3/6, and 5/5 to go on an epic 10k downswing over like 80k hands.  (lololol bankroll management)  Its pretty brtual with my expenses and everything, but I think ill be alright If I actually do stick to a 40 buyin rule this time around.

I made a sample video of me playing hi lo if anyone is interested, I should add some more content when I get a chance.

My main plan for a youtube channel right now is just going to be a video blog of me getting drunk.  If any of you are familiar with drunk history,

it should be something like that!

becoming an affiliate, wcoop

Recently I noticed that Im missing out on money that is pretty much up for grabs, so I took a day off from the grind and signed up to become an affiliate with every poker site under the sun.   The immediate benefit is the I gained around 8-15% rakeback per site that I signed up with for myself, and I think I can earn a decent sum of income this year by signing up more players.   (I'm currently only at 6 players total.)

I have some marketing strategies that have a lot of potential and I fully plan on pursuing them soon, I mean full scale campaigns within a week or two.   Overall I'm far more excited about ways to make it in the poker industry without actually playing.  Im doing it for the nosebleed stake of course.

Its weird trying to build an empire that involves multiple companies, and Ive been doing a fair job of outsourcing everything I dont have to do myself.  I heard thats the way to make moniez.

play wise, wcoop was a bust for me.  The six am tournaments I really didnt have a chance in, and the rest I couldn't get a hand in.

Oh well, maybe I can make money without playing.

A guide to plo8 sngs. pt 1

A couple hands of sngs

Early stage play

I play extremely nitty out of position but tend to open up a bit more on the button and might call a min or 3x raise at 10/20 with hands that are double suited or make the wheel a fair amount. This is in addition to the standard value hands were peeling with, like our a2xx, a3xx combos (perferably with the ace suited and other support like another wheel card. Hands like a6tj I would just muck this early on since it never has a shot at making the wheel, and we have few chances at making the nuts or hitting boards where we will easily get value. On the other end hands like 2345 ds hit alot of boards where we will have nut low with redraws and stuff like that.

3 betting in these early stages should be left to the top of our value range, and preferably when were in position. An important thing to remember is that hands run really close in equity in this game so we always have to try and interepret the strength of our villains' hand to find our next correct move. Omaha eight or better is a post flop game, and you certainly shouldn't get attached to your equity pre flop.

Try and remember that you can turn aces into a bluff, (for example: when the board comes single suit and you either have the nut flush blocker or just want gamble that your opponent isnt the holding correct other ace in his hand in a heads up single raised or 3b pot) and on some boards it is better than playing off the value of aces. (But on high paired dry boards we will mostly be playing our aces for value like on a kh ks 3d board.)

Were extremely lucky to pick up aces here when a guy is sitting out, but I wanted to highlight the betsizing were going to use. Betting half pot to one third of the pot with our hand, which is essentially the nuts, is the best way to play this turn. If we bet any larger we will scare away all the hands that were going to get value from

This is a spot where we have no value and little redraws but we do have the initiative and can make a fairly proffitable c bet bluff for half pot. Hopefully you aren't giving up on these boards as the preflop raiser! Even if its a multiway pot.

8 handed in an 18 man sitngo we can't open even hands like this with our stack and players that are shortstacked left behind. We run a huge risk of being reshipped and having to flip or getting it in 60/40, but when we actually do manage to steal the blinds it isnt worth much to us. If we were shorter, or this were a tournament where everyone was deeper, then we could open a hand like this from our position.

There are some boards where its best to go for a delayed c bet or re evaluate the turn! I always support everyone in thinking outside the box and taking atypical lines! There are certain standard moves you should have in your game, but you always have to adjust to your specific opponents to maximize value vs that particular player.

I dont really play sngs anymore so I would prefer if someone else had hh's they were unsure of? otherwise I'll just play a couple a day to find some that I think have educational value.

moved to canada, new blog

I recently moved to canada after loosing my whole bankroll on full tilt, and I'm trying to build back up to the mid - high stakes games from practically nothing.  I started off with a thousand dollars and put in around 270 hours in August, with something like 130k hands going from .10/25 to 3/6.

It wasn't all up hill and most of success actually came from shipping o8 mtts as I ran wicked under in cash, and got coolerd pretty hard at the higher games.

All in all I ended up making like 7k for the month, which isnt horrible.  I know that I can do better this month and I have found some sites that are offering 60% rakeback, which is going to be pretty crucial in rebuilding my roll.

Life wise:  Having a roommate grinding a foot to my left is pretty awesome, we celebrate our big hands together and say random things to cheer eachother up on downswings.

Maybe I should stop getting so drunk in publick and workout more, but well see how busy the grind keeps me.

I know my tptk here has sick equity vs their ranges, and I dont see the problem getting it in on this board.  but maybe im turning my hand into too much of a bluff and should have bet less and got it in vs one opponent.  any thoughts?

Ps.  I have a new blog @ www.beatingplo8.blogspot.com  but I plan on keeping this one going for a while, especially if it gets any viewers.
