Ringside

I started a thread on 2p2 about my switching over to full ring full time, so I thought I might as well post it here as well.

I started playing online poker seriously about 15 months ago. When I first started, I jumped into full ring, because that's all I knew. I quickly found 2p2 and made the transition to 6max, because that's what all the cool kids played, and I was told it was much more profitable.

Here are my 6max results:

So clearly I'm doing something wrong. From time to time during this period of breaking even through rakeback, I would occasionally play FR when I was tilted or had been losing and just wanted to nit it up a little. Usually, when I played FR, I would do pretty well, then go back to 6max after I had rebuilt my roll and spew it off again. (Also, had I not run hotter than the sun at 10NL I probably wouldn't still be playing poker.)

A poker-playing friend of mine pointed out to me, about 5 months ago: "Dude...why don't you just play full ring all the time? You win money at it." And I said "Blah blah blah, games are dead, 6max is more profitable, I'll get better as a player much quicker, blah blah blah." Now some of that may be true for a lot of people, but not me.

Much smaller sample size, but enough to point out that maybe I'm wasting my time at 6max for now, and should be focusing on grinding out some full ring instead. I think I'm better suited to it, and I think I can do very well.

At the moment I'm well rolled for 50NL, so I'll be 10-tabling FR, aiming to get about 1500 hands per day at least, and possibly work on increasing the number of tables.

My goal is to reach 200NL FR by 2011. I think with enough volume, tiltlessness and work on my game this is definitely possible.

My inspiration for this is WCGRider. Looking at some of his old 2p2 posts, where he's asking about BRM for 4.40 180s in MTT and Beginner forums, then following his trip into grinding FR cash and now playing high stakes, it's very inspiring, and proof of what is possible through participating on these forums and working on your game. I am aiming to emulate his work ethic and grinder mentality, and I think I can do it.

That was the post I made on 2p2. Since then I'm up around another 400 dollars at 50NL FR, and won $330 in a 5.50 tourney last week as well. It's been a good couple of weeks. :)
I'm on my netbook at the moment, but when I get back to my laptop I'll post some updated stats and graphs for my 50NL FR play up until now.
