Stop calling OOP

OK, so I was trying to come to terms with the fact that I sucked at poker, but I couldn’t work out why I was losing money and breaking even. So, I posted my stats and my graphs on the forums and I got some good feedback – when I was playing as the aggressor I was doing well, but when people started betting and raising into me I became a complete calling station.

I went into Poker Tracker and looked at my stats for hands where I’ve called a preflop raise, and it turns out I was losing at about 180ptbb/100 over those hands. So I basically stopped doing it. Pocket pairs and some suited connectors I’ll still call with, but apart from that, I’m pretty much not calling a raise preflop, like, ever.

So, for the past couple thousand hands I’ve focused on playing with the initiative, in position, and being wary of aggression from bad players. Here’s my results from the last 3500 hands (some at 10NL, some at 25NL):

I’m heading in the right direction, at last.
