The Game That Wasn't Meant To Be
....watched.
So much to some people's surprise, I have a real job. Â That job gets in the way of things. Â Things like the World Cup. Â Luckily, technology has allowed me the freedom to record something and watch it when I get home. Â I took off a few hours of my day so that I could go home and watch the USA match and then the England match. Â However, I still had to make it through the day without finding out the results. Â I just won't check twitter, facebook, yahoo, or anything and I should be good right? Â That's what I thought. Â
I hop in my car to head to a retirement lunch before heading home and I always have my radio set to 97.3 because it's nothing but static and my iTrip adapter for my iPod Touch works well on that station. Â I turn on my car and instantly I hear excited yelling and something about a goal I think. Â I snap turn it off. Â Phew.
I arrive at the restaurant for the lunch and glance up at the TV at the bar without thinking. Â I saw a goalpost and net before quickly turning away. Â 2nd crisis averted.
I sit down at the table and turn to the guy on my right.
"So I'm recording the USA soccer match," I say. Â
He replies, "Oh yea? Â Isn't the score 2-1?" Â
I nervously laugh and say "haha good one." Â
Without cracking any sort of smile he says, "no no, I'm serious. Â I think it's 2-1 right now."
"Umm wtf dude? Â I just said I'm recording it."
"Oh....I didn't hear you say 'recording.' My bad."
"Well at least you didn't say who was winning."
At this point I decide not to preempt any more discussions about it and just hope it all works out for the next 90 minutes before I leave.
20 minutes later, the guy to my left - "Hey so did the USA tie it up yet?"
Awesome.
So I get home and start watching it anyway because I still want to see it and I don't know if that's the final score or not. Â At the 60th minute, the recording stops.
"Recording didn't finish. Â Satellite lost signal."
*speechless*
The England match failed to record as well. Â So I turn to ESPN2 just to watch the remainder of the England match live and that channel doesn't work. Â All other channels are fine.
The channel finally fixes itself.....after the match ended.
So it turns out I missed an amazing comeback by the Americans and what should have been a victory. Â Awesome.
