I'd recommend buying into the table for the max, and keeping auto-rebuy on. You want to be able to extract maximum value with your good hands.
When buying in for 50bb you may be restricting losses, but you're also restricting winnings. You're likely using a full stack strategy without a full stack thus denying yourself the implied odds you need in order to play they way you're playing.

Hi diab0lic, i was referring to limit hold'em (LHE) play in this post.
Your comment helps highlight why the strategy wouldn't be a good idea for No Limit though, which is a shame because tilt in No-Limit has even more potential to cost money.
For instance, I got frustrated playing NL a few months ago and spewed 4BIs in half an hour = 400BBs. At least I was only playing 4NL at the time.
