updizzy
About a week left until I start script writing. Lots of writing in the meantime. Hopefully a few more movies too. I started reading Dostoevsky (Notes from the Underground and The Gambler).
I am going to create a central file(s) for the project that includes all my prep writing (characters, plot synopsis, storyline development and character arcs and so on). That way it will be much easier to comment on ideas and follow along as the story evolves--everything will be in a central place instead of a series of disjointed blog posts. I'm going to keep posting thoughts here (and probably a few scenes as I write them), but the heart of the story will be found in those files. If you'd like me to share them with you, comment or PM me with your email and I will send you an invite later this week!
PS Game of Thrones! Finished S2 strong. I have the feeling S2 will be even better watching on blu-ray in a 10 hr binge. Also, Mad Men. JFC. Killer two hour block of television. Those are the only two hour long dramas I'm watching right now. I think they pretty much cover all someone needs to know about humanity!

I thought the end to this season didn't have the same puch as last season. Maybe last seasons ending had a larger character impact?

Definitely. There were fewer storylines last season too. The big problem w trying to do epic storytelling in 10 episodes. They need more time. Still was super impressed with how they managed to conclude most of the storylines and reorient the chess pieces in interesting directions.

I started Mad Men, it begins really slow, does it stay that way?
I did intrigue me until got bored.
Loved GOT s01, but did not watch s01 yet, def. must download it
I also liked Burn without notice. But also only watched a couple of episodes from s01. Tghoughts on that series?
Do you enjoy Touch from Kiefer? Watched a couple, liked it. But also a bit slow

Mad Men picks up the pace but still is generally a slow burning drama. The lead writer/creator came from The Sopranos. I'd put it on a pedestal above most other TV shows I've seen.
Haven't seen Burn Notice or Touch. re: Touch, I basically won't watch anything on network TV anymore unless it's super zeitgeisty or has run more than a cpl seasons. They put out too many shows that fall apart or get canceled

I think any TV show has to be running massively over EV to either not get cancelled or ruined. The system is just set up to not really work with long term story telling.

I think that's less of a problem on cable TV, but yah, either way you basically need a ton of luck. Network TV is particularly tricky because you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator, so often the more intelligent shows are canceled or lose what's interesting about them to try to satisfy ratings. As a viewer with access to so many great shows I think it's usually a waste to invest time in something that isn't guaranteed a shot at concluding the story or satisfying the expectations set up in the pilot...

That's something I wrote a while back on why I think it's an exercise in futility.

Dostoevsky: "The Gambler" is good, but not his best. Read "The Idiot" or "The Brothers Karamasov".
