A Day of Toil, then Reward
I had an unpleasant experience today that kept me off the tables some of the night. I was returning from a family visit when my car began to sputter and I lost acceleration. I was low on fuel, but was hoping to make it back to my place which wasn't too far, without having to stop and gas up. I ended up running out of gas for the first time in my life. I have toyed with running dry many times, but it never happened - perhaps this time I took it too far, like Kramer in that one Seinfeld episode. The nearest gas station was about a 30 minute walk up the road, and I also did not have a gas can to my chagrin. Also did I mention it was chilly, raining lightly and windy? And that I was in shorts and a t-shirt?
I made my way to the gas station and luckily they had one gas can left. I filled it and then made the return trip back, which was much worse than the way there. Holding the 5-10 lbs of gas, plus the bottled water I had acquired left me with some sore arms. I finally get back to my car and put the gas in. I open the driver door and notice that I suddenly have a completely flat front left tire. FML. I pop my trunk and there's a spare tire, but somehow the car jack isn't in there, so I ended up having to call a tow truck. The tow truck was 45 minutes later than their estimate as well, so this was a real peach of an evening!
So there I was, out the cost of a tire, plus the towing fee, and I missed several hours I was expecting to coach and play. Luckily I hopped on FTP at around midnight and I actually ran pretty good and made quite a few buyins in 3k hands. The donks were out, and it should definitely be a good weekend for poker with the Super Bowl going on in the US. Running good, and getting quite a few regs to sit out against me HU felt nice and made up for the shitstorm of earlier.
