what a difference a day makes

well. as of about 5 days ago, i was playing 10NL full time, and was running 12BB/100, up 25BI's.

in the last 5 days, i've had people calling my 3bets with low PP's, 53o, 63s and flopping the nuts. you can't beat that sort of play.

down 15BI's in 3 days. O_o

it's a tough game at times.

in the beginning...

bit of a short bio.

i've been playing poker a few years now. started playing the micro tourneys on stars, and playing the local pub leagues here in wellington, NZ.

after a while, i started playing cash games, and reading as many books as i could get my hands on. and soon, i had given up the micro tourneys and the pub leages, and was playing nothing but online cash games. and not doing too badly. my bank roll went from an initial $150 (the last time i put money onto my account), to a reasonable $1800 on stars. but like with most good things, that came to an end, and my roll slipped back to $400.

at this point i said to myself, sod it. if this keeps up, i'll have nothing left. so i spent some extra money and booked up some coaching lessons. that and switching sites to Full Tilt, things started to click back into place, and my roll was starting to move in the right direction again. and quickly, my roll went from the initial $400 to $3k.

my best month was october last year. half way through the month, i was up 20BI's at 50NL, only to lose 16BI in a week to a combination of people calling 3bets with low PP's and hitting sets vrs AA or KK, or stacking off with 55 when i have 2 over cards + NFD + OESD, only for the 5's to hold. but by the end of the month, i had managed to work it back up to 10BI's. so it wasn't a bad month in the grand scheme of things.

by feb this ear, i was running on empty as far as poker went. so, instead of playing it down to busto, i pulled out my roll (all of it), bought some golf clubs, and a Canon 100D DSLR camera. i was 1 more rakeback paying to come, so thought i'd just potter around with that, play some micro SnG's till it ran out.

about 2 - 3 months later, my verve for playing came back. it was late april by this stage, and only had $50 in my roll (last rakeback was about $46 back in feb). i started at the bottom, with the intention of working my way up as far as i can, trying not to tilt as i used to a long the way. :)

and to ge fair, it's kinda working. i've moved from 2NL, and am now playing 10NL full time. my roll has gone from $50, to allowing me to play 10NL full time. august was painful. playing 5 and 10NL mix, lost $72 over the month. but in the 1st half of september, running at about 12BB/100 so far. made that back, and more. so back to normality, though not with it's ups, downs and random suck outs along the way. :)

when i was struggling for enthusiasm for playing earlier this year, my coach gave me 1 piece of advice, and it's great in it's simplicity. everyone knows it. "if you need to take a break from poker, then take a break. and take as long as is required. the game will always be here.".

also, i do tend to play a rather varience orientated game. so when it comes to getting sucked out, i should be learning to accept that, and moving on. and that is improving (the curse of being an emotional mofo i guess), but i still have a long way to go to control it. guess thats why i love the game. :)

anywho, thats enough burble from me for the monent. will post more later.

stack 'em and rack 'em.
