Preflop Hand Equity - In your head

I've worked out a system that can easily be done at the table, involves a little memory work though.

My maths sucks and my memory is not good but it's working for me so far.

It has Pros and Cons

Cons
It's using PokerStoves ranges
Will take one or two hours to learn
It's not 100% accurate - Some spots it's 100% accurate, other spots it can be 1% to over 10% off.

Pros
Gives you a better guideline of equity
Gets you thinking about ranges and equity
Some spots are 100%
We can work this out at the table in seconds in our heads.

Steps

1) Memorize some hands vs a 4% range. I actually memorized 21 hands vs a 4% range, AKs, AQs, AJs, ATs, A9s, A8s, A7s, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, 88, 77, KQs, KJs, KTs, QJs, JTs, T9s, 98s. This was actualy pretty easy, I put them all in a table as below:

vs 4% range
1st Row Aces AKs, AQs, AJs, ATs, A9s, A8s, A7s
Equity 45% 37% 34% etc etc
2nd Row Pairs KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, 88, 77
Equity 68% 56% etc etc
3rd Row Rest KQs, KJs, KTs, QJs, JTs, T9s, 98s
Equity 33% 32% etc etc

21 hands in total vs a 4% range
You may have a good memory and find it easy to remember 21 hands vs a 4% range, I used mmnemoics, pictures and linking. If you want a copy of my table and memory tricks in work just PM me.

2) OffSuit - Once id memorized the above table I'm using the rule of Minus4. Taking 4% equity off for any non suited hand.

e.g we know from the table that we learned above that KTs vs 4% = 31%
KTo v 4% = 31% - 4% = 27%
our guess is 27% the actual answer is 27.6% which in this case is very close,

3) Other Equity Ranges - Now that we know KTs vs 4% gives us 31% equity, but what if it's KTs vs 10% range? Well I simly add the range to our equity. 31% + 10% = 41%
our guess is 41% the actual answer is 37.3% which again is pretty close.

4) Other Hands not in the table - Again I'm using the rule of minus4+minus1 per hand

Example in the table we know the equity for KTs but not K9s.
Using the minus4 rule would be 31% - 4% = 27% actual answer is 28%
K8s would be 31% - 4% - 1% (as it's 1 hand off the table)
26% actual answer is 27.95%
K7s would be 31% - 4% - 2% (as it's 2 hands off the table)
25% actualy answer is 28.23%

More examples:
J6s vs 15%
We know JTs vs 4% = 32%
so would be 32% + 15% = 47% - 4% -3% = 40%
our guess 40% actual answer 31%

Q9o vs 11%
We know QTs vs 4% = 33%
33% + 11% = 44% - 4% - 4% = 36%
our guess 36% actual answer 30.5%

66 vs 20%
We know 88 vs 4% = 31%
31% + 20% = 51% -4% -1% = 46%
our guess 46% actual answer 46.9%

A7o vs 30%
We know A7s vs 4% = 30%
30% + 30% = 60% -4% = 56%
our guess is 56% actual answer is 46%

A4o vs 20%
We know A7s vs 4% = 30%
30% + 20% = 50% -4% -4% -3% = 39%
our guess is 39% actual answer is 42%

Overview:
1) Learn Table
2) Learn rules

Rules:
Off suit hands - Minus 4
Other ranges - add new range to current result
Hands not on table - Minus 4 plus minus 1 per gap from table

As you can see from above the results are not spot on, but this can help us calculate a guesstimated equity in our heads at the table in real time, plus the benefit for me at least is I'm thinking about equity and ranges more.

SNGs in FEB

So I've not played many games this month, it's been a busy one, with moving etc, I still don't have the internet in my new place, just a dongle that disconnects constantly despite that I've still played a few sessions with some profit. Works been real busy lately too, but interesting and days in the office are going really fast, lot's of work on and many new changes which seem for the better.

I've ordered a new desk which is due towards the end of the month a super fast internet is being installed in 10 days, also have my eyes on a powerful desktop PC with dual monitors for multi tabling. Really can't wait until my setup is complete and I can play some long sessions in comfort.

I thought now I'm living with my girlfriend id have even less time for poker, but she's really cool about, happy for me to play whilst she does her thing, also she goes to bed much earlier than me so gives me some time on my own. She also needs time to study where I can put in sessions too, so all is cool there.

For now I'm still studying and working on my game, I've actually been writing everything down that I'm learning or changing in a word document, it's now 13 pages long and has some great information I can re-read to refresh my memory.

No Internet - No Money - No Poker

So past week has been super hectic, I've been organizing moving in with my girlfriend, everything that could go wrong went wrong:

1) Work has been crazy, the busiest I've been in months, which left me little time to organize things.
2) Had to Cash out 75% of my bankroll for the deposit, I left myself with just $200 and FPP points, sold the points a played two $26 90 mans and luckily doubled my roll so on just over $400 now
3) Had to find somewhere to live, I emailed every agency in London around the areas I wanted to move, just over 50 (it's a numbers game right) BIG MISTAKE, my phone didn't stop ringing. Still took a week or so to find a new place.
4) Had to find someone to take my current room, my flat mates are the messiest in the world so this meant I had to clean up all their shit until I found someone to move in. Didn't enjoy that. Took 5 days until I found someone, 8 different people viewed the room.
5) Moving always sucks, hate packing and unpacking, I was living in the center of London and there is nowhere to park, the van had to park one block away which meant lots of carrying.

So now I'm living in a one bedroom flat, just me and my girlfriend, will be much cleaner and less stressful, she's really chilled out and cool about me playing poker. I rang up a good internet provider who said in order to sign up with them I have to get a letter off my landlord WTF. My landlord lives in Russia so don't really want to have to wait for them.

I've signed up with a different company but it's going to take around 10 to 15 working days to get installed and setup, So I'll be poker-less for awhile now, but will continue to work on my game. I'm also planning to get a nice desk setup whilst I wait and start saving for a fast desktop PC. My new area is really peaceful and stress-free I think this is going to improve my game and focus more.

Review winning players in your Data Base

After a few sessions tonight, I was up about 7 buyins and decided to review the players in my database I had the most hands on. 1 guy I have just under 10k, he's a massive reg on the $6.50's with 7% roi up around $12,000 on sharkscope.

I compared his entire range of stats to mine and noticed that I'm not only much looser than him, but more passive than his agg%.
Example:

His VPIP% 12.5% mine 21%
His PFR% 10.5% mine 16%

I looked at his ranges in Early, Mid, CO, BTN, SB, BB, 3BET, 4BET and wrote down what hands he plays in what positions.

Then I cloned his style, I just 5 tabled to try this out, small sample I know just 5 games, but I was impressed with my results.

Game 1 VPIP% 3  PFR% 3
Game 2 VPIP%  6 PFR% 6
Game 3 VPIP% 20  PFR% 16
Game 4 VPIP% 18 PFR% 16
Game 5 not sure closed table

Playing with optimal stats in 5 games placed:
5th
5th
1st
2nd
3rd

in $6.50's cost me $32.5
won $54
profit $21.50
$0.67 rake back
total profit $23.32

66.2% roi
60.0% ITM
$/hr:$29.32

adjusted
54.2% roi
$/hr:$24.04

Obviously crazy small sample size and the deck hit me pretty hard. But I think I'm going to continue to work on this part of my game, back to basics.

I beat the $6.50's STT's now with my style over a couple of thousand games. I make lot's of my chips in the first levels against the super fish, then tighten up whilst the normal fish and semi decent players battle it out.

This new style is much much tighter, I think if I can clone it, it will be a better style for me when 16 tabling.

I also reviewed these 5 games afterwards, with HEM, SNG WIZ and PokerStove, lot's and lot's of mistakes in such a small sample, seems my SB game needs lot's of work:

Mistakes I Made in 5 games
1: 3 handed, in SB with T9o vs 6bb loose caller my stack 8bb's should of pushed 47% of hands
2: 2 handed, in SB with 4Jo vs 15bb loose caller my stack 8bb's should of pushed 81% of hands
3: 2 handed, in SB with 98o vs 15bb loose caller my stack 8bb's should of pushed 81% of hands
4: 2 handed, in SB with 3Ts vs 5bb loose caller my stack 17bb's should of pushed 70% of hands
5: 2 handed, in SB with 45o vs 5bb loose caller my stack 17bb's should of pushed 70% of hands
6: 2 handed, in BB with QJo vs 14bb agg rasier my stack 13bb's should of folded pushing 20% hands
7: 5 handed, in SB with 95o vs 6bb semi loose caller my stack 22bb's should of pushed 100% of hands
8: 4 handed, on BTN with AJo vs 17 bb early loose min raiser my stack 10BBs should of folded pushing 2.1% of hands
9: 4 handed, in SB with T4o vs 10bb tight caller my stack 19bb's should of pushed 100% of hands
10: 4 handed, in SB with T4o vs 10bb tight caller my stack 19bb's should of pushed 100% of hands (exactly same situation as above)
11: 3 handed, on BTN with JTs and 12bb's against two semi loose callers, should of only pushed top 17% of hands
12: 3 handed, on BTN with J8s and 14bb's against two semi looser callers, should of only pushed top 23% of hands
13: 3 handed, in SB with 95o and 5bb's against semi looser caller, should of pushed 100%
14: 3 handed, in BB with 28o and 4bb's against semi looser raiser, shoulf of folded pushing only top 24% of hands (worst call ever)

Running Like God

Unsustainable ROI's

So I'm running too good at the $6.50's right now depsite this unsustainable chart below I'm still making the 4 following mistakes:

1) Playing too may tables on my weak laptop. When I 16 table I have to turn off my hud and Table Ninja, all I have is my notes and colors not good.
2) Getting spanked in the $11's everytime, not sure why I even bother now, I build a roll up then dump it on the $11's, I may as well stick to the $6.50's and build a roll up this way.
3) Playing MTT's when I don't have the time... sounds dumb but I do this ALOT!!
4) Not playing long enough, I study poker lot's which is good, but don't put in enough volume, I'm lazy and or scared of losing sessions (odd huh).

Weak Tables SNGS

I've never seen the tables so weak as they are right now, shame I need to go to sleep :(

I take notes in all games, players are rated on their plays, stats and sharkscope.

Yellow = Super Fish - 10%+ roi
Green = Fish - 5% roi
Light Blue = Break Even Player -1% to 2% roi
Dark Blue = Winning Player 5% roi
Dark Purple = Winning Reg over 10% roi

I want to play on more tables like below:

Notes don't lie! Winning player with chip lead, superfish first out.

I'm guessing this will be over fairly shortly.

And another one,

Seriously is there some bonus going on, why so many, I'm going to Play longer sessions on Tuesdays from now on.

SNG WIZ 1

I noticed when I make mistakes in SNZ wiz I get a bit angry at myself, then I looked back at my results/mistakes and noticed they are grouped together.

Now I can't help thinking I wonder if this happens when I'm 16 tabling, make a mistake on one table and then my judgement is not as strong on my next decisions. Could well be yet another Leak in my game....

Max Player 4
Maximum Hero Stack 18BB's

Goal: Before each session I have to play 100 hands with at least 85% pass rate. In addition to this I'm adding 25% studytime 75% play.

Life Balance vs Poker

So everything is changing in my life right now, I broke up with my Girl Friend, I'm moving places again, so decided I'm going to concentrate on balancing my life more and adding some new changes. Rather than just Playing shit loads of poker, watching every tv show in the world and drinking too much.

I guess I was just comfortable/lazy with my ex and caught up in same routine I need to break, I sound like a monster, I'm not just need some tweaking in my game/life :)

  1. Sleep 8 hours a day - This is a must as I normally sleep 5 and I'm too tired for everything else.
  2. Exercise more, - Running, Sit Ups, Swimming, Stretches, Walk to or from work
  3. Eat Healthier - More fruits, veg, lean meat fish etc
  4. Drink less booze - When drinking, drink Vodka or Whiskey with a mixer rather than beer (diet reasons)
  5. Drink less coffee - Swap it for water to cleanse my system
  6. Give up smoking - Make that conscious effort to stop cigarettes from controlling me
  7. Work Harder - Get tasks done, out of the way, no need to leave things
  8. Set Poker Goals - E.G read that book then Play, watch that video then Play, talk about that hand then play.
  9. Don't put things off - Tidying up, Washing, cleaning, Emptying bins etc get it done out of the way out of the mind.
  10. Save Money - Stop buying shit you don't need.
Balance your life more

Don't get caught up in same old routine, mix it up more, stick to your goals add some excitement.
Read, Play Poker, Exercise, Cook, Drink, Date, Shop, Sleep, Write more Comedy, Watch  more live Comedy.
