grinding etc

I played a lot of hours this month so far. I try to play an average of 4 hours a day which normally means I get to play 2-3k hands. At the moment I feel good about it, but I know that I have to make some changes to keep being able doing that.

My average day looks like this: Getting up at 9:30am, work from 10am to 3pm, dinner, poker from 4pm to 8/10pm, and then doing what I want to do. Tbh, after working for 9-11 hours (poker is fun obv, but if you keep it serious, it is like work, because you can't make those fun plays like calling down with J high, because it might be correct "this one time") I don't do anything. I watch a DVD, football match (and it's not soccer!) or just some TV and that's it. Boring, isn't it?

The next problem is the factor, that I sometimes have to work from 10am to 5pm. This happens on every Friday, but sometimes it is on a random day. After working for 7 hours I normally don't play any poker, because I feel like my brain doesn't want to work on a high enough level anymore. I mean, don't get me wrong. I like my job. I have to work 25hours a week and I can use the overtime for extra holiday (I hope you get what I mean lol). Just tough to play an average of 4 hours a day on a high level/A game.

To make changes I want to start with some sports again. Just starting of easy, but then pushing it every week a little bit to get volumne in there, too. As you can see, it is all about grinding :D Last year I was on a good level, was doing my excercises every week. But then I got destroyed by a sick downswing, and it really crushed my soul. The good part about it is, that I know can play longer on my A game, because I don't tilt as much anymore, but just sitting in front of your PC/TV and eating unhealty meals, I guess you get my point. I want to change that, and I feel I have right now a good point in time to do that.

The next thing is that I want to travel the world a little bit. And as a poker player, why not going to some places where you can find a small buyin tournament (well, small might be the wrong word for a buyin like ~550€) and a city that is interesting. Last year I played the Deepstack Open in Namur (Belgium). I think the tournament structure is awesome. You get to play really deep for a long time. The cashgames were awesome, too, especiallyy because it was the first time I was playing a real money cashgame live. I mean online poker is really much tougher then playing live. But that's another story ;)

I decideded to play the Paradise Poker Tour in Prague and the Deepstack Open in Lloret de mar (Spain). Right now I am thinking about playing every event of the Deepstack Open, because like the WPT/EPT they have tournaments in different countries, which is a plus if you want to travel a lot.

And here we are back to the first problem. To realize that, I have to play a high volumne, because traveling obv isn't cheap. So for the rest of this month I have 2 goals for myself, which I think both are realistic:

  • a) [ ] starting with sports again
  • b) [ ] play 50 hours of poker for the rest of the month

I mean, it sounds like a lot and it is. I hope I don't get on a downswing, because I started with a stop-loss again a few month ago, because I think that this is a good tool to keep on your A game. And if I once reached the magical number of 5 buyins, I quit the session. But, I hope it won't happen and if it happens not that often^^

I'd like to share one hand with you guys, even so I don't have the exact HH in front of me right now:

BTN opens to 12 and I 3b him with A:diamond J:diamond: to 44 from the SB, he calls. We are both ~800€ deep. Flop is J:spade 8:diamond: 6:diamond:. I bet ~60 and he calls. Turn is 5:diamonds:. I bet 160 and he snapshoves which I instafistpunpsnapcall. River blanks and he shows me Q:diamond:3:diamond:

Nothing spectacular, but yesterday I had my first nl400 shot after not playing nl400+ for ~8 month or so and I am really happy I am back to that point that I can take shots. Even so I won this one hand I lost like every other hand lol. Lost like 1,4k€ yesterday, but that's ok. People only had the top of their range the whole time and I played my hands well, and that is what counts. Obv I'd like it more if I would have won 4k€, but ok, next time ;) :D

Ok, I guess that's it for today. Thanks for reading!
