Is it worth trying to hand readin the Micro's?

I know that probably the weakest part of my game is hand reading. I find it incredibly difficult to put someone on a range in the heat of battle and then narrow it down street by street. I am crap when only playing one table, let alone when trying to multi table! However playing only one table at the Micro's will take forever to build a bank roll!

After watching the Hand Reader episodes on DC, I thought I would go over some hands in Holdem Manager using the replayer, and see if I can put them on a hand when I have more time and no pressure. After going over several hands I still seem to be way off what they actually have, and am wondering is it because at the Micro's people are so unpredictable it is almost impossible to put them on a hand? Please see the hand below as an example. I want to see if anyone can put the villain on a decent hand range and is it just that I am crap!

A way to work it out!

Ok, I've been trying to work this out but it's doing my brain in now so I thought I'd take the easy option and post here!

Say we have KK, the flop is 6c 8s Qc. We put our opponent on a range of QQ+, 66, 88, AQ. When I put this in Pokerstove I get 40% equity with the KK. At first I thought this was because of the A in the AQ, as these are more outs he can beat us with. However when I change the A for a J, it works out more or less the same. Here is how I work it out in my head:

3 combo's of each possible QQ, 66 and 88 (9)

6 combo's of AA

Total 15 that are crushing us

12 combo's of AQ

1 combo of KK

Therefore 28/12 = 2.33

100/2.33 = 43%

I've just answered my own question!

One question I still have from this, is there a quick way to get to approx 43% in your head, rather than having to do that sum on the calculator? Also from this, how do you work out the pot odds you need to make the call profitable?

Was this a slow roll?

I played this hand a while ago in a cash game at my local casino, and it has stuck in my mind ever since because I am still unsure if what I did was actually a slow roll!

Basically I had A9 on a A9xxx board. My opponent bet the river and I called. He showed one card, an Ace. When I asked to see the other and he turned over a blank, I then showed my 2 pair. His mate laughed and berated him that he got slow rolled. He gave me daggers for a few moments before skulking off.

Now my thinking is that poker is a game of knowledge of the other persons play, and seeing as I have paid to see his cards then I have the right to do so. Having said this, is it still bad etiquette to do what I did?

Lost in a hand, how should I have played it?

Hi guys, has been a while since I've been on but haven't really been playing much tinternet poker of late, but have decided to dedicate myself again to the cause! I played this hand earlier and really was unsure of the correct way to play this hand!

CO: $9.35
BTN: $12.32
Hero (SB): $10.42
BB: $15.07
UTG: $11.02

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is SB with Q of clubs Q of spades
2 folds, BTN raises to $0.20, Hero raises to $0.60, 1 fold, BTN calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.30) 3 of clubs 2 of clubs 6 of clubs(2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.65, Hero calls $0.65

Turn: ($2.60) J of diamonds(2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.95, Hero calls $1.95

River: ($6.50) 6 of diamonds(2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

Final Pot: $6.50
Hero shows Q of clubs Q of spades (TWO_PAIR QUEEN, SIX)
Hero wins $6.07
(Rake: $0.43)

I know I played this had very passively post flop, but my thinking was that if I bet I may only get called by a bigger club, or maybe re-raised off it. I hated playing it this way but didn't know what else to do so went into check/call mode!

Any comments much appreciated.

My Poker Journey Part 3

Ok guys, let me know how badly I played this hand.....

The stats for Villain MP2 are only over 28 hands, and are 29/7, 100% steel, WTSD 13, W$SD 100, Agg 2.7

Full Tilt Poker $2.00 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players - http://www.handconverter.com/hands/1028061

MP1: $1.73
MP2: $1.81
CO: $1.96
BTN: $2.00
Hero (SB): $4.61
BB: $2.57
UTG: $3.76
UTG+1: $0.97
UTG+2: $2.38

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is SB with Kof hearts 9of diamonds
3 folds, MP1 calls $0.02, MP2 calls $0.02, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.01, BB checks

Flop: ($0.08) Aof diamonds 9of hearts 7of clubs (4 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP1 checks, MP2 bets $0.08, Hero calls $0.08, BB folds, MP1 folds

Turn: ($0.24) 9of clubs (2 players)
Hero checks, MP2 bets $0.05, Hero calls $0.05

River: ($0.34) Jof diamonds (2 players)
Hero bets $0.34, MP2 raises to $0.75, Hero raises to $1.16, MP2 raises to $1.66, Hero calls $0.50

Final Pot: $3.66
MP2 shows Ah 9s
Hero mucks Kh 9d
MP2 wins $3.42
(Rake: $0.24)

I know it was bad to float the flop OOP, but when i hit trips and he only bet 5c, it made it look like a post oak bluff to me. On the turn should I be too worried about the full house? I would think maybe it would be a little bit nitty not to get more value out of top pair and 2 pair type hands that players at these stakes are over-valueing?

Advice welcome, as I am still very much learning my trade as a poker player!

My Poker Journey

I haven't had much experience with online poker, only playing small stakes in home games and the odd casino tourney with low buy in's. I have recently read an article in a poker mag about turning a $50 buy in into $500, using correct bankroll management and sound poker play.

I am new to using a HUD, but thought I'd better try it out as it's what all the pro's use. I downloaded a free trial version of Pokertracker.

Starting at 0.02/0.05c blinds, I Have had to drop down to the 0.01/0.02 blinds because of a bad run with variance (or so I like to believe!) I decided to multi table seeing as this level should be pretty easy to beat just playing ABC poker. I was playing 2 tables of 10 players on each, my thinking is this will give me a bit more time with decisions than the 6 max tables. Unfortunately however they seemed to be more or less in sync with each other, and I was being dealt my 2 hands at pretty much the same time! First half hour I was running great, winning on both tables, but then the bad beats kicked in! I won't run through them all, as no one really listens to bad beat stories (well I don't, I just usually look interested, not my head and look sympathetic, when really I am using that time to think of something much more useful!)

So, here is the hand, see if you think I did anything wrong......

I get dealt AQo UTG+1, and raise to 5c

Villain who is 2 seats to my left raises to 15c (his stats are VPIP 23, PFR 13 over 40 hands)

I call and its 2 players to the flop, which comes A 7 K, two spades

I check hoping to induce a bet. I get what I want and he bets 25c, I flat call.

Turn is Q of spades, giving me two pair, but I now check for pot control as there is a possible flush, and I don't want to get raised out of the pot. The villain check behind.

River is a 5, and I make a pot sized bet of 83c, hoping he has a weaker Ace, like A10, AJ.

He re-raises me all in which is only another 22c.

Of course, he has AK for the bigger two pair!

His stats say he is only raising a tight range pre flop, although 40 hands isn't that much to get a good representation. I thought that it was less likely for him to have AK as there is already 2 Aces gone. Did I play this hand badly?

HUD help needed

Hi guys, this is my first post on this site, and I'm looking for some help on how the HUD works on PokerTracker. My questions are:

1) How does VPIP work? Does this increase only with a limp, or are raises included? What about calling a raise, does this affect it?

2) Does calling a limp and calling someone elses raise affect different stats?

3) If for example, all you ever did was call from the small blind if no one had raised, check or fold from the big blind, and only ever raise once per rotation in a 10 handed game (this is just hypothetical to try to get my head around how the stats work), would the stats look like VPIP 10% PFR 10%? Another example if someone calls twice per rotation of the button and raises once, would the stats be 20/1? I am trying to get it into my head what people are actually doing to get the stats they do.

4) Does the Agg stat only apply to post flop. I have noticed they are different on holdem manager and pokertracker. What do the numbers actually relate to?

5) What stats would you assign to loose aggressive, loose passive, tight aggressive and tight passive, in a full ring game?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who replies. Any help is much appreciated.
