Small Victories
With our team struggling to put together too many wins this year as a coach you shift your focus into the cool little things that happen when coaching a high school sport. Recently a kid who doesn't play much but works incredibly hard stepped up and ripped an opposite field double. As the coach that works with his swing the most, it makes it easy to come to the park the next day. You can't talk to the kid about that at-bat enough and it makes you realize that while wins and losses are nice, it's not why you get into it.
Have another Bill story for everyone. On Saturday he was playing CF and a ball was absolutely crushed over his head. He just turned and ran, actually like he was supposed to. The only problem was he was running toward left center while the ball was drifting to right center. So he's in a full spring the wrong way and while seeing this the head coach and I are losing it over on the bench. He eventually sees where it lands, ditches his glove and runs toward it. Our RF runs over and fumbles with it a couple times so Bill takes it and fires it in as the kid is crossing the plate.
After the inning we asked him what happened? He said "I knew I wasn't going to be able to catch it so I just turn and ran." It was actually cool to here him say the right answer I just told him you have to give another look to check out where the ball is and you'll never know if you'll have a chance to catch it. Still fun for him to start getting advanced concepts 6 weeks in, some outfielders never learn to do that.
The Bruins swept the Flyers. Getting some revenge back from last years sweep. Now it's onto the conference finals where they haven't been since 1991. They're playing incredibly well right now and are fun to watch. The only problem is arguably their best player Patrice Bergeron suffered a mild concussion at the end of game 4. He has some history of concussions and has to sit out out at least a week. Hopefully he can get back in ASAP.
They play Tampa in the next round, a team they handled during the regular season. However they didn't go against Roloson once. I can't wait for the series to start as it'll be so intense to have a horse in the race. My pick is Bruins in 6, hopefully I'm right. This is actually the first year ever I've watched little to no NBA playoffs and almost all NHL playoffs. Their product is just that much better, way more intense form start to finish, there really isn't much like it.
Passed my second finance test last week so I can now officially start. I need to pass 2 more before I can advise people on a wide array of investments but at least I can get the ball rolling. I've mentioned this before but while I've been through some sick sweats in poker not much compares to the 10 seconds you have to wait for your test results to come in. Especially when you know you're not a lock to pass it.
Now I have to start getting clients. My first step is to write-up a prospecting letter. I'm really awful with these types of things. I've done some brainstorming and know how I'm going to end it, that's about it. I'll write it up tomorrow but it just seems like it's going to come off as incredible cheesy. Once I can get a few clients most come from referrals. So hopefully something can click sooner rather than later and I can hit the ground running. Until then it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time and when I do acquire clients, doing a good job.
Since poker ended I've stopped taking sleep aids. I knew I shouldn't have taken them before but it was just so convienient. I played late hours a lot of the time and it was so much easier just to pop in a sleep aid rather than wait for my body to settle down. I've slowly been getting better at going to bed and waking up at the same time the next day, hopefully I'm back on a normal schedule in a week or two.
As a country fan I typically hate when I hear a popular song on a pop station. Most of the time speeding it up or adding more noise to it doesn't make it more appealing to me. An example of that I've heard recently is The Band Perry's "If I die young". Here is a recording of it live, the way it was originally recorded. I'm not even going to bother with the other version, but they're a really good up and coming group.
