Database management
I've been breaking down my database every night for the last week for about an hour. I have been focusing on hands between 15-40bb's. I feel like I lose a lot of money in those spots by making small mistakes that add up over time.
At the moment some consistent patterns or themes I have picked up along the way are:
-Not multi street planning enough: in other words not considering how the board texture will change and in turn affect my opponents ranges
-Preventive medicine is the best way to stay healthy right? Well, I haven't been doing a great job of that in my game. I am putting myself in unprofitable post flop scenarios by making mistakes pre flop. I called an UTG raise in the BB with KJs. I got laughed at in the forums for saying flatting KJo from an UTG raising range is alright if you have position.
I feel like some of this will get fixed by not multi tabling. Well that issue just solved itself since I'll be playing much more live. I haven't been able to clear enough time to play lately. Its been tough given my work schedule and all. I found some cash games about 25 mins from me via a friend. There used to be some pretty juicy games around Denver and I'm sure there still are. I just don't know anyone in those games anymore. Those will be the most convenient since I live in the downtown area.
Something else I will focus more on along with the 2 I've mentioned above are not losing=winning. I think thats easy to forget for some players.
I like to imagine myself as batman when I play. Why? Well what or who is batman? Well batman is a super hero but he isn't "super". He's got some cool gadgets and all but what he has no powers to speak of. So what does he have?
Intense self discipline. Batman will never falter EVER in the fundamentals. He sticks to the code and that code he will take to the grave. Now look at his opponents. They are all designed to take that away from him. Look at scarecrow, he tries to poison batman with his various syrums and chemicals (Which, btw, I might consider taking for fun haha).
Then we look at Joker who is the polar opposite of batman. He is random and chaotic while batman is tight and predictable. Well, tight and predictable has always made money in poker and kept batman alive, right?
What is the byproduct of playing tight and predictable besides the obvious? Well, overtime it wears down your opponents. Your opponents biggest weaknesses are many but one of the biggest ones is lack of discipline or self control. Not spewing will force them to spew before you because they will grow tired, angry or frustrated because they don't envision you losing. So they will go out of their way to suck out on you to make you lose while in the process giving money away.
Not losing is winning
