+1
Great stuff Joe! Those old ammonia printing machines were crazy (I used to work in an architects offive where we had one of them).
Definitely liked the 'When you've got it good' section. Things definitely change & can change quickly, both for better & for worse.
Another great episode ... I sense something in the 2011 awards for this series!

I sense a level....
However, I couldnt help myself as i'm sure there is many young users here that never new why they were called blue prints nor will they ever see one.
Great stuff, Joe! This whole series is really helpful and insightful.
Totally my favorite Blueprint so far. ![]()
Thanks Joe.
i loved the last quote because it reminded me of awhile ago i was playing a session with suuuper soft opponets and i kept thinking to myself "wow im going to make alot of money at this table" when in reality while im defiantly going to make money at the table in the longrun alot of time i can and will lose money at that table against those players (and i did) this easily has to be the hardest part of poker is truly understanding and accepting the fact of luck/variance in such a skillful game.
really great video joe probably the best one yet please get alot more of these, one of the best overall series on the site/web. ![]()
I sense a level....
The first part wasn't! My favourite blueprint so far ![]()
1. I am not a car guy - but thats a sweet ride.
2. I came over to DC because I was told about Baluga whale Coaching tree series - but I soon found Joe Tall videos and although I dont always play Joes games - he is one of my favourite video makers and I am always disappointed when the season is announced and no Joe tall vids - So Joe stop poisoning your baby and do another series ![]()
3. Cool video - and you gotta work on your timing Joe coming out the week of UIGEA.....man thats bad - I am about your age '91 grad High school - anyway I quit my job in late 2000 took a break then decided to take a risk and try and start a new business in the U.S. ( I am Aussie) within two months of moving there sept 01 hit and basically the business I was trying to start got stuck in a timewarp for 6 months and I burnt too much cash and never got it going. - SO yeah timing is everything.
Love your work.
and get out a new series Joe lung
.
great stuff
I know that you didn't speak on any of my questions specifically in the video, but here they are:
With your knowledge of multiple games, what game would you choose to teach a person who has never touched a deck of cards whose intention was to try going pro eventually? Would this answer have been different 3 or 5 years ago due to certain games getting tougher?
If you could only choose one game to play for the next year for yourself and current skill set, which one would it be? Would the answer change if the only goal was to make the most money possible?
Do you feel that it is necessary to play all the games you know individually to keep your skills sharp or can this be done by playing them in a mix? or does it differ between games?
Thanks and I enjoyed your blueprint! I wish you didn't have to struggle, but its good to hear the cautions of someone who has been there.
Time Link to 00:21:27
Yeah I expected that. I mean why would someone who has naturally strong emotional control teach how to work hard to achieve it? They just have it ![]()
Its nice to see you're all just like us. I think many of us get it in our heads that you guys crush the poker galaxy when in reality a little more hard work is all that separates us.
I'd like to one day sit down with Tommy and hear stories about how he would explain to people how big of a degenerate he used to be.
For example, how do you reason to people you are such a degen you have to hide your bankroll in several different places so you won't blow it all? (As explained in 8 fold path or his book, don't remember specifically) He's my idol

Limit Holdem.
If you could only choose one game to play for the next year for yourself and current skill set, which one would it be? Would the answer change if the only goal was to make the most money possible?
Answer doesnt change, forced to play one game, Stud8 but that is because there are more games available on a daily basis.
Do you feel that it is necessary to play all the games you know individually to keep your skills sharp or can this be done by playing them in a mix? or does it differ between games?
Does not differ between games, work is work. You gotta put it in to get better. FWIW, my O8 game has severely slipped as I have not played much and have lost interest studying lately. So Ive been trying to work on O8 a bit more.
You mentioned in your video that basically the rug was pulled from under you when party poker disappeared. You had a baby on the way and had to borrow money.
Thats a lot of pressure to put upon yourself to make things work at that time. Do you think that pressure acted as a catalyst to where you are now or did it impede it?

Catalyst for sure. I moved quickly into adulthood.
Nice series Joe Tall
in specific what was so good?
I didnt have to get a job to live an epic lifestyle.
I really enjoyed the 'Science of Poker' concept. I'm a psych major and I can easily see how you've took the scientific approach and simply applied it to cards. The 'retest' part was also a nail on the head because it reflects a never ending cycle for improving in poker and can easily be applied to every area in life such as college, working out, healthy eating. Cool video.
Are you doing any future videos that adapt to the recent add ons of draw games on full tilt... like how you've done for 'from a donk to a stud series' and 'saddle up'.
Really enjoyed this Blueprint episode. You gave some great advice and it was really cool hearing your story. The bit about how no matter what your situation the only guarantee is it will change is something everyone should think about. I have only one tattoo and it reads "Isto Tambem Passara" or This Too Shall Pass - words I live by. Enjoy the good times and prepare for the bad but remember neither of them last forever.
