Thanks for making this video. I actually wrote these down to refer to when I am done playing poker for the day.

Well, there's no one way to do it, you just have to keep your eyes open and think like a businessman. For instance, last night I went to a new place in SF called "House of Air" that is a big warehouse full of trampolines in various arenas. We played trampoline dodgeball with whoever else was there (mostly high schoolers) and it was awesome! So naturally I started wondering about the business elements behind the place, on the off chance that someday I'd start up a trampoline place myself:
1) How much are they spending on rent/insurance/payroll?
2) How much revenue are they bringing in?
3) Is it a feasible long-term investment? Will it only become more popular with time, or will the novelty wear off?
4) If you own the place, are you still allowed to throw dodgeballs at high school kids?
Obviously its unlikely that I'll ever end up going into the trampoline business, but the point is to keep your mind open to this sort of line of thought. Find something you enjoy doing or a service that people want and try and figure out how to make money with it!
great blueprint man <3
Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy your videos man, prob my fav coach to watch.
I was a little worried that the first couple episodes of this series would be great, but then they would start sounding the same. This couldn't be further from the truth and I am very impressed with every coach's effort/advice so far.

Internet news are terrible if you read them for the purpose of broadening your horizon and variety. At least I have the tendency to hand pick what I already know about look at specific headlines.
When you read printed papers that you trust like The Economist you accept what they provide you with and read them from cover to cover you will read things that on the internet you would completely ignore.

The cat thing, is my cute asian GF a good substitute?
I am not too sure if she'd be happy if I get another one to 'keep her company' though.
I hate cats. Just seeing them tilts me.
Just thought I'd share that.

True, the Economist is awesome. I also read the Atlantic and would recommend it, if you don't quite have an Economist-level attention span but still want to learn new things about a wide range of important topics.

yea, but cat+GF is a pretty great combo too

its for the best.
I recently quit my chump job to go pro. I have to say, this was tremendously inspiring and it made me hopeful about the road ahead. Thanks DJ ![]()
Really enjoying this series, and this episode is no different.
I have a slight contention with, not being able to have poker as a true passion. Im sure most of the best players in the world either are very passionate about poker or atleast were for a decent length of time. Most ive heard from say they dont enjoy it so much these days sort of thing. However a few sound genuinely still passionate and I admire them for it. the full tilt pro Ben Roberts and improva come to mind. I hope theres an Improva blueprint, that would be real interesting.
Very original cat aquiring advice, I take it you havent ever gotten on raging tilt and had the urge to throw one of them across the room?
Anyway DJ, enjoyed the episode and what you had to say, Thanks.

The only time I ever really get tilted by them is if they come up and whine to be fed (Zeus does this thing where he stretches up and paws my arm, then nibbles it; Jenny just whines a lot.) when I'm on the grind and running bad. But thats just because I'm already on tilt a little bit, and they are distracting. Normally they reduce tilt rather than encouraging it. Also, I'm really nonviolent (outside of video games and nerf guns) so I'd never hurt a pet.
I really liked this video, and I especially liked the idea here that you would be making a mistake in life in general if you didn't take full advantage of all the freedom and opportunities you get as a poker player. When I reflected on this video, I realized that the main reason I want to be pro isn't because I want to sit around in my pajamas all day, and not even really because I enjoy playing the game(although I do), but it is because one thing that I never want to have to say in life is "I would really like to do that, but I can't because..." As someone who has just recently decided to really take poker seriously as a career path, I feel assured that if you approach poker with the right attitude and work ethic, that you really WILL become successful and that success will give you the opportunity to basically do just about anything you want to do with your life. So anyway, thanks for posting this video. I found it very inspiring and insightful.
As a piece of advice on a side note, one thing I have found really helps to not feel so isolated while working on a computer all day is to just take your laptop and go somewhere public like a library or a Starbucks. Even if you don't talk to anyone all day, I think it just really helps to be around other people. I've gotten into a routine of going to the library for several hours, going to the gym, and then going to somewhere to eat where they have wifi to work for a while. At the end of the day, I've found that I just feel more accomplished when I go out to work instead of sitting at home on my desk all day (although it's very nice to have the occasional stay at home day when that recliner is calling my name and the new netflix movie just came in)
This was a great Blueprint with one exception: poker CAN absolutely be a true passion. Why couldn't it? Maybe you think it's shallow, but I'm sorry, to say it can't be a true passion is dead wrong.
I wonder, if you tell people you start business with , that they should not be passionate about it ... Do you tell them go clime mountains? LOL! I personally think , that this is the worst thing to say on poker training site , because you gonna kill some enthusiasm in a lot of people!!! I don't know, may be this is something , that you meant to do ...
