A year ago, Entity took PygmyHero under his wing in the series "Real
Life: Microlimit Grinder," and coached him from struggling at $.5/$1
to winning at 10x the stakes. Now it's Pygmy's turn to give back, as
he takes a struggling microlimit LHE student, AdriennesRevenge, and
attempts to duplicate the success he's had in the past year.

PygmyHero returns to continue the long standing tradition of passing on the knowledge of the limit jedis. His new student AdriennesRevenge sits down and they begin their lessons by going through her HH and analyzing some stats and specific spots.

I'm really looking forward to the later stages of the series, as I'm getting totally crushed when it comes to minbetpoker above the 1$/2$-level
btw what happened to your third part of the "site selection"-series pygmy?

Both FTP and Stars changed their player rewards structure. So that complicated matters. I've been pretty busy, but hopefully I can still get it out soon.

HEY I know "On My Own" from Les Miserables!!!
Ok maaaaybe I shouldn't have admitted that.....
On the O/U thing I don't think there's a number BIG enough for the amount of Star Wars References you're going to try and get in for this series.
Looks awesome Mike, gonna be a good series imo.

I just wanted to point out something about the odds calculations you did on the fly in Excel. I could easily see someone watching this and going "ok 5 to 1 translates to 1/(5+1) so 5 to 2 translates to 1/(5+2)" and this is obviously not correct. Though I guess a simple way to just get the quick and dirty answer is to realize the numerator is also affected by the numbers in the odds, and the shortcut is X to Y = Y/(X+Y).
I usually give an explanation of X+Y trials and how the outcome of each trial will either be X or Y, and then dive into the overall EV for X and for Y etc.

Really enjoyed this video. I never got the chance to watch RLMG from the beginning, so I think I missed out on some of its awesomeness, even though I enjoyed watching the later episodes.
Mike, I think you really excelled in this format, where your voice came through much stronger than in RLMG (where you tended to defer to Rob a lot). It shows how much you have grown as a player that you are now able to teach and explain the various concepts that you worked through as a student in RLMG.
Jess, I think you have a strong background to work with. There's worse things in the world than being too tight when you first start out. That said, I hope the format of this series is helpful in your transition up the stakes. Even though you're being challenged (to do seemingly crazy things like defend your blind with 64s!), take comfort in the fact that you don't have to have your game completely reworked, but rather just add new skills to your already solid base.
If there is one aspect of limit hold em that will be crucial to your continued improvement, it's going to be becoming more comfortable with the math involved and how that affects your strategic play. Ultimately, every decision you have to make must involve an understanding of the math involved. For example, suppose UTG raises, 2 players cold call, and you have 72o in your big blind. Should you defend your blind and put in another bet with this trash getting 7 to 1? Well, no you shouldn't, even Mike isn't advocating being that loose! BUT...
...what if the poker site you were playing at was running a special promotion, in which the person who wins this particular pot wins $20? Now you have to consider the odds you are getting to put 1 more SB in the pot. Assuming you are playing $0.25/$0.50, there is essentially an extra 80 SB in the pot from this promotion. So now you're getting 87 to 1! Even the lowly 72o is worth a call in this spot, and to fold here would be a HUGE mistake. The interesting thing is that the amount of money to be added to the pot in the promotion does not need to be huge to justify calling with 72o here; even a promotion of $1 added to the pot would make 72o a marginal call in my off-the-top-of-my head estimation.
I hope you two will go into a deeper discussion of odds at some point in the series, especially to distinguish immediate odds (which is what you were talking about today) from effective odds and implied odds. Overall, I was very impressed by the first episode and look forward to watching this series develop!

DD, this is a great point. And of course you're absolutely right. Truthfully I was not 100% prepared to do an explanation of how to convert odds to percentages, so I appreciate you clearing that up.

This guy is sooo Rob with the voice of Pygball
So you're a coach now? Grats!! Why don't you show up in the coaching section yet?
Two things:
Why is there a black frame consuming 2/5 of the whole vid?
There is a smallish mistake at 50:20. You have to plug in the suits of the board in Stove. You'll get 22,6% equity instead of 26,8%. Nevertheless, it doesn't affect your advice to call the AK4 flop getting 9:1/8:1.

I think it's because the video is a compilation of a few types of video, basically excel+powerpoint+hand replay and not all of them fit the screen the entire time. That's my guess, at least.

I think both of u made a great job and it was fun to watch despite references to American sports. And like everyone say basic math is really good to understand the game better (but you will not do actual calculations all that often).
When I saw that 64s hand I was like: "easy call". Then I thought to myself why do I think that's an easy call? The ugly truth is that the main reason is I've seen the coaches do it. I think that many players are like this, especially pf. One does not have to understand everything 100%, but copying good players style goes a long way.
Loosing up pf has been the biggest and most valuable change of my game lately. Why did I do it? Because Rob told Mike to do it in RLMLG2. (And this comes from a big math nit like me).
But like I said understanding the fundamental math IS important.
Finally I much prefer PokerAzor -> tools -> Equity calculator
over stove. Stove is frankly outdated. U have much better option when it comes to suits, post flop etc. And the result will be presented in a better way too. And it's not more complicated (the basic tool is however much harder to use).

Jess,
You should notice that all the hands PygRob picked and ask you to play are not only hands that can make straights, but they are also suited. In general non-suited gapers are a lot more trashier because they cannot make flush and thus have much much lower implied odds.

I love how people are putting action down even though there's no actual LINE on any of these things (I did this too). Next week's episode is already in, but maybe I'll have to do a quick edit to explain how prop betting actually works to the viewers.

If you were JoeTall's daughter you would have raised the 64s, flopped quads, then used the the winnings to crush Matt Hawrilenko.

And Joe's girls, very cute... And looks like your wife/you are very productive with the recording of the videos. There's nothing like to have those videos to look at in some years when our small "babies" have become little terries - we should be so thankfull that we can record in HQ and not just take pictures in b & w. I love technology
