Hi rob,

Nice Vid Smile

I normally record 1 table vidz on camtasia 5, i have the screen resolution at 1024x768 in control panel and it comes out fine.

Ive recently been trying to make some 2-3 tabling videos and have changed my screen resolution to 1600x1200 in order to fit all the tables on the screen as to not have them flashing up and overlapping.

Each recording has come out wrong. In the playback after i save it, i cant see all the tables (the clarity/speed is fine) its just too big and i need to scroll across to see all the action. Does that make sense?

I select 1600x1200 in camtasia to record, and all the tables are there, i just need to scroll up and down on the playback to see them, its not like i havent recorded them correctly.

When i actually save it as wmv it comes out as just a black screen with no audio.

This only happens when i changed my resoltion to 1600x1200.

Do you have any suggestions? I love make member videos so i hope i can sort this out! Thanks mate

What is the highest resolution your monitor supports? I am making a guess that its something other than 1600x1200, what kind of monitor do you have? Fwiw I always set the recording area in Camtasia by dragging it across the screen by hand, rather than entering a set recording size, not sure if that makes a difference. When you save the recording it should save a .CAMREC file, I assume you still have those? When you open that in Camtasia Studio (see the other Coaches Corner on simple video edits imo) does it show up fine in the preview window? If so you have a problem with whatever CODEC you are using to produce a WMV, which is a simple problem to fix.

Thanks DD.

I have an ACER 24" LCD EAH2400 series.

My monitor can support anything from 1600x1200 to 800x600. I normally have it on 1024x768 so everything is big lol.

The recordings come out fine on 1024x768 so it wont be a codec issue imo.

Ill make another recording and see what happens.

Someone mentioned i need to slow down graphics hardware acceleration or something? Does that make sense? Also changing color quality from 32bit to 16bit?

Thanks

This is strange and leads me to believe that your monitor is not set at the resolution you think its set at, if it can't fit your playback in the window.

I looked, this isn't a model number for Acer monitors.

These things might allow you to eek out a bit more manageable file on an older computer, but I highly doubt they would cause the error you are describing.

You ignored my one question about CAMREC files, I assume you have these from your recordings, and from what you are saying it sounds like they recorded fine but potentially at a weird resolution. If these files are fine the issue is simply producing a WMV at the resolution you are trying to produce at in Camtasia is failing, and that tells me that your monitor or graphics card most likely don't support the resolution you are trying to produce at.

Sorry, Asus must be the graphics card.

My monitor is an Acer 24", sorry about the misunderstanding.

Ive actually deleted all the .CAMREC files as they were all faulty. Truth be told, this video reminded me of the problem, i havent made a video for a while due to the issues i mentioned so I dont have any .CAMREC files left, I will make a new one this week and post the results and a screen shot if possible.

Thanks again

why would you ever choose any other than the highest possible resolution on an LCD monitor? If anything is to small you can change the size of it according to what suits you. this always has by far the best quality, compared to any interpolated resolution.

I'd just set it to the highest possible, after that resize the windows you want to record as you like it and just select the recording by dragging the recording area accordingly, then just use that resolution for the final video or encode in whatever else quality you want later

I downloaded Camtasia Studio 6. I selected a custom area and and I am able to record my tables fine. However while the video is recording my computer slows down and I have no response time from my mouse and I can bearly hit the action buttons in time. Also when I view the recording camtasia flashes all around the edges.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Unfortunately, Camtasia is a beast of an application and requires a pretty up to date computer. I'd recommend trying version 5.1 rather than 6 as it seems to be less intensive, but regardless you're probably going to need a decently fast computer to record on.

I'm interested in getting Camtasia for doing some videos for the new teams we are working on, does the Camtasia studio 6 recording process work in a similar way to this video? No brags but I do have quite a beast of a computer so I'm not in any way worried about performance.

Yeah its very similar, it even made the user interface a bit simpler when setting up your recording area etc. Most of the changes to V6 are in the editing abilities.

It's more or less the same process, just a few tweaks they've made to the UX but basically the same idea.
