Sthief09 talks about a hypothetical situation and how to narrow ranges of yourself and opponent based on how the streets play out. Hand is Here.
DC shorts are short content bursts brought to you by DC Labs. Roughly 1/4 the length of standard videos, these shorts are designed to review single hands, concepts or ideas. You'll receive the most up to date content available and stay in touch with the latest and greatest here at DC and the poker community at large.  The more you post in the forums the more likely it is your post will be the inspiration for a future DC short!

I forgot how much I like your analytical approach Sthief09. Thanks for this video.
Can you post the spreadsheet?

Helpful comment.
I found the first half of the short really interesting. Most of the second half with the spreadsheet stuff went way over my head. Does WoT's MoNLHE get to anything like this later on? I started watching the series but am not very far through owing to 'head-explosion concerns'. Or if not there, is there a video or part of a video that explains the construction of something like that for analyzing a hand, for beginners?

I would like to hear why you think this, so I know what things people do not like for future. If you'd like to keep it private, a PM would be much appreciated as well.

oh man, good timing. finally started watching with Erica, and am midway through season 3.

Well, when I make a spreadsheet like this I mostly do it to model the hand and so that users can download the sheet and change around constraints and see how the EVs change. I explain my methodology but only for completeness. I think the methodology part is probably what you're asking about.
As far as the concepts behind the methodology, it's mostly Bayes' Theorem, equity, and standard EV equations. Math of NLHE definitely does cover these concepts, though less abstractly.
I would recommend downloading the sheet, playing with the orange boxes (constraints) and seeing how the EV changes, and under what circumstance c/c or c/r is best.
If you'd like to get a better understanding of the methodology, absolutely feel free to PM me and I can explain. If you're not a big numbers guy I wouldn't worry about that, and just focus in on the 'EV of c/r all-in' box.
The video is messed up when I try to watch it...It goes all pixelated and pink. The sound is ok though. I think that's maybe what "garbage video" was trying to say...
sthief, thanks for posting the link to the spreadsheet. It's a great supplement not only to the vid but to the site as a whole. Stuff like this really helps out all of us that are not very competent at excel and have trouble with methodology. I would love to see more stuff like this across the board on DC.

Thanks man, will definitely go through the sheet and mess around with it. I'm definitely not a big numbers guy but it's something I'd like to move towards slowly. Think I'll try and tackle the next few episodes of MoNLHE and then get back to you when my head is less likely to explode! I'll get there though... ![]()
>The video is messed up when I try to watch it...It goes all pixelated and pink.
Roughly 1/2 of the videos on DC do that for me, although I usually get mostly green pixels and some pink. The only way I can watch them is to DL the MP4, which always play perfectly in VLC. THis video is like that for me.
Rebooting the computer, upgrading flash, etc. doesn't help. If a video has that problem it always has the problem.

it's so weird. someone mentioned that a couple of weeks ago but I ran through it and didn't get that. I have a PC and use google chrome. not sure that would matter though.
