79 makes a straight right?
79 makes a straight right?
I think what he's saying is that against villain's range of some flushes, maybe some straights, some 2 pairs and some sets, JcJx is a stronger hand than 97 because of our redraw. So we should be value raising JcJx before we value raise 97 on the turn, if we decide we have a value raise.
I understand the concept, but think the difference is really missing the point. The point was that our opponent has played his hand in such a way that a straight/flush makes much more sense than a set/2 pair. So, yes, I probably should group 79 as having the same immediate value on the turn as JJ, but JJ has more ways to improve so is the better hand to value raise. Thank you for the correction.
On the aj hand do you play ak the same way or is that a b/f on the river?

What's the concern with folding 88/99 and those hands being higher up in our range? (Just the backdoor straight draws?). Are not 66/77 effectively 88/99 in that if he's beating those pocket pairs, he beats all of them?

I think that calling with every pocket pair under tens would be calling too many of them, so I just simply lop off the smallest ones I could have. Also, 88/99 are slightly stronger with their backdoor draws.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the smaller aces suited to the clubs checkraise this turn either, kind of thinking, "hey, look what I found." Even still not a good spot to be in but definitely something certain players are capable of. calling flop checkraise keeps us out of this spot (among the other things you mentioned) and I think is very good advice.
