Sthief09 continues our classroom discussion of 6max NLHE. Topics include an analysis of ranges versus potential flops, using HEM filters, and flop analysis in general.
sthief09 shows us how to develop various optimal game strategies including 3-betting and 4-betting at mid-stakes 6max NLHE, using PokerStove to break down hand ranges and analyze HEM stats.

this series is the best and most revolutionary on dc yet, very well done.
Also what prog is that?
i luuuuuv this serie, Iv'e learnt so much, am really looking forward to the next EPs
The best serie I've ever seen.
Ah by the way the weather in New York is pretty cloudy that's what I've learned ![]()
QFT all the above. Really awesome content and work stheif. Great series.
Slide with the plot you say that the interesting thing is that on the Axxr you don't have much FE if we assume the green is how often he folds. Doesn't this slide tell us that a cbet with ATC is profitable "in a vaccum"?
I mean I understand that it's probably smart to cbet more on flops that are more likely to produce a fold (if we have air) but still ..
[you do say that we shouldn't mess with the flops that have a high red because of the thread of losing a bunch and I can also see that getting bluffed a lot can make it worse to bet but in a vacuum I'm just assuming I'm the better player]
That being said I think you're doing an awesome job of putting the intuitive though process of experienced players in numbers. I think the example of "lots of yellow" = good one barrel; high green = gotta fire multiple times often if you commit is a pretty good illustration of that.
WOW! Insanely good.
Great Work Josh.. As a member I appreciate how much more work this series is for you than a typical poker vid, so Thanks!!! Other than that a few more examples of how all this useful info translates to practical situations would be great..
Superb stuff. Am loving this series!
hey josh, great series so far.
i was wondering if u could give me a rough idea of what my 4bet sizes should be, you mentioned $105 in the first vid, but i play 100NL and open to different amounts each possition and get 3bet different amounts by different opponents, like i open $2.5 from BTN and get 3bet to $7 by some players in BB. is there a way to work out what ur 4bet size should be to be unexploitable?
thanks.

I'm pretty sure If u want to be 4-bet bluffing you shouldn't be 4-betting a size greater than approximately 26BB/27BB for 100BB stacks to ensure your not committed when villain shoves.

Yeah I PM'd josh with a similar quesiton - asking how 4bet bluffing with two cards J and up (JK/AJ/QK type hands) and Ax hands factors in to raising smaller on the btn to 2.5bb. But he never got back to me.
I suspect that the correct play is to never 4bet and just call a wider range and taking advantage of position - partly because with such a small 3bet he can call a small 4bet easier and thus we have less FE, and partly becasue it is just so cheap for us to call their small 3bet with a wide range and play position on them. I also suspect though that if we raise to 3bb we can 4bet to about 2.2-2.3 times their 3bet size, which I find is about the right amount of 4bets in general for both bluffs and made hands. Anything more than that is making them fold to our big hands too much and makes bluffing more expensive thus we need them to fold more often for every extra BB we put in there for the same profitability. But yea... raising to 2.2 times their bet when they raise to 7bb is just so cheap that I suspect they don't fold enough to make it remotely profitable and why I assume calling your entire range is the way to go.
Anyway - would like to hear josh's thoughts if he has some time.
omg, this episode is the best! I've learned so, so much and Im really thankful for doing that hard work. Thank you very much Josh, I really appreciate it. Keep up the good work!
I just posted a question on 2+2 yesterday asking if there was a program that would show how certain ranges hit various flops as it's something I've given more thought to lately. Then watched this video last night and was greatly impressed. I'd love to see more of this sort of thing possibly with example hands shown along with the graphs. Great series sthief.
Hi Josh
I agreee w everybody, very good video.
When you break down the IP calling range (approximately 6:27 into the video) a few good hands are left out:
AKo, AKs, AQo. As a consequence the 'Strong TP' catagory is only 1 %, where it would be closer to 7 or 8% if we assign weights like 0.33 0.33 and 0.5.
Did you leave them out intentionally, because it is your opinion that they should be asigned weight 0?

Love this series Josh, it's fabulousooooo and is helping me tons! Will probably rewatch this and do WoT series then go back to Playbook.![]()
