Not necessarily, episode 1 is almost all re-used material from an older video, a bit of revision.
Awful commentary, i gain nothing. Mostly whining imo:/
Vid stops after 35min. ?
Anyone else have the same problem?

Nope, likely has to be your connection, watched the whole thing here.
Love it Vanessa, tyvm.

Vanessa sounds like she was pretty sick when she made this video - probably run down by the WSOP schedule. Anyway her commentary, whilst she DOES run bad and points it out, is pretty insightful... and in most spots she does explain what her thought processes are etc.. It's bad at all imo...
Vanessa's videos are almost always extremely helpful, especially in hand reading and just generally the way she thinks out the hand...
Hey guys... patience is a virtue. In the spirit of full disclosure, I actually made this series before I made 2x6 (and without knowing that it would not be my first PLO series). So the first couple of episodes are intended to be pretty introductory, but then it moves pretty quickly. I think the middle episodes of this series (weeks 2 through 7) are going to be pretty damned cool. So just stay tuned ![]()
note to all pros...please don't record videos while you are sick...i almost threw up like ten times when duck swallowed her mucous on mic. yecch!

I have no doubt this is true. This video was an enormous let down though.
DC members have got to be the toughest crowd I've ever seen.
Folding JJ47ds first in on the button at 26:50 seems like losing a fair bit of value. Did you mean to do that or were you just concentrating on something else?
meh, that's marginal... either i felt like the buttons were too loose to open that, or i was concentrating on something else. i'd probably open it against most people in the blinds, but only from the button. i'd muck it from the CO for sure.
Liked the vid
So I guess I should watch 2x6 also
I noticed you do use a hud, do you use statts alot while playing? And what are you looking for? (for example what are your statts?)
Did not like this video very much at all. The constant sighing and sniffling was pretty annoying. Also, you seem to have a decent amount of preflop leaks--in particular overvaluing offsuit and single suited semi-connected hands, and way undervaluing paired hands. You made some ridiculously loose opens with unpaired hands and very tight folds with paired hands (ie 8863ds in a limped pot in the sb, JJ47ds otb). I think you overestimate how often you get oversetted.
Fair enough, I'm willing to accept that might be true. I never learned PLO formally from anywhere - just started playing and learned through that and years of sweating and discussing with friends who play a lot of PLO as well. Since my preflop play isn't book-learned, it's very skewed towards my preferences and adapted to the way I tend to play poker and what I know about poker... I'm sure there might be small leaks, but these videos aren't meant to be the gospel of "how to play PLO," they're just my take on it. So hopefully you can get past my folding paired hands and learn something anyway.
Agree, with all the sniffling and hacking and snorting, the vid was almost unwatchable. Is there no "mute" switch on your mic? If you're sick while filming a vid, is it too much to ask for you to re-record the commentary?
Was Joe Beaver's play really that bad with his nut flush draw & gutshot vs your top set? I think it's pretty common (and maybe correct?) for people to get in HU with non-nut flush draws as long as they have anything else too, like a pair or straight draw. Some players will even get in there HU with strong straight draws, figuring that it's too weak to assume they are against the flush draw when HU. Maybe they are tighter at $400, but lower I'm not sure that his play would be that bad. thoughts?

While I agree to limp w/JJ74ds on the button after a few limpers, I still may fold 8863ds in the SB in a 1/2 structure. It's a flipament-multiway and you are OOP, your RIO are very high with such a hand and acting first is only going to compound errors.
That said, both hands are still completely marginal and frankly are a "How much variance do I want to absorb?" is likely a better question than stating it's a very-tight fold.
Note: I'm only half-way through the vid, but
I play a LOT of 2/4 PLO on FTP, usually 4-6 tabling. Vanessa's style is very similar to mine (which is about 23/16 and I'm +4.5bb/100 over a large sample). I think she is correct in her preference of unpaired connecting hands (even unsuited) over weakish paired ones (even with small suits), although it may be fair to say this preference is too strong. Some things that needs to be considered (especially in position): the implied odds of hitting straights is often higher than hitting flushes, and even if you are good enough to get away from non-nut flushes you will often still lose some bets. Moreover, concerning pairs, you must remember that getting money in with an underset (or underflush) is the worst possible situation you can be in (and conversely, having your opponents make those mistakes will be the most profitable situations).
I also think her post-flop thought process is superb. Thinking things like "okay, I'll call the turn here cause I'm often best" and then "okay he checked the river, so now I think I'm probably beat, so I'll know turn my hand into a bluff since he probably thinks I'm strong" etc etc etc. These are very sophisticated thoughts that are crucial to being a winning player and moving up in stakes. While the whining could be omitted, it's pretty easy to get annoyed when you get your money in pretty good and lose a few weighted-flips in a row.
Tiltyduck? I think this was very weak, and i'm sad that you running bad, influences this video so much, cos you really sound tilted all the way through, and seem very unfocused
Nice vid, Ãs the rest of series going to be the same style as this one?
Just because personally I think that instead of watching you play 4 tables having you discuss a certain amounts of hands in more detail (like you did in the "Unconventional Wisdon" series) might be even more informative/profitable...
Oh and yeah, you really ran like crap in this one...
I liked the video, but if it was supposed to be about preflop play you should have discussed your preflop decisions in a lot more detail.
In this video the postflop discussion was a lot more extensive (and interesting) than the discussion of preflop play.
I think the video was good in general, even though she ran really bad. I didn't think she concentrated on explaining Preflop play very well, but I liked the video overall.
Awful commentary, i gain nothing. Mostly whining imo:/
Awful comment on this video, mostly whining imo?
Thanks for making this video Vanessa, I am trying to get my head around this game and rather than have a pre set starting hands chart thingy I want to learn how someone who can beat the game thinks about the game.
Wow,I cant believe how much negative comments are made towards vanessa. She was sick....Big deal. When one of,if not,The best players in the world are trying to teach you how to be a better player,It shouldnt matter if shes sitting on the toilet after getting food poisoning or if shes the epitomy of good health.![]()
Ive had the honor of playing NLH with vanessa way before she was "Vanessa the star" and even back then at Foxwoods,Playing 5/10 nl,She wasnt the most gracious of losers,Because all great winners hate to lose.
She made alot of negative comments and did her fair share of berating but weve all done that.Just imagine if superman constantly lost a fight to some random guy because he was lucky enough to find a lil piece of Kryptonite on the floor,Im sure he would tilt a lil himself![]()
Anyway,Just got a chance to watch some of her stuff and i think its well worth the watch,TY vanessa
