Anksy in his vids talks about how it makes sense to bluffcatch with the "top" of your range, e.g. call with a queen and fold a ten. This because you can't be always calling or always folding and he sort of uses cards as a randomizer with the benefit that when you have a stronger hand it makes less likely that villain has one combinatorically.
What do you think about this? Obviously other factors, like tendencies and board texture, should be way more important. The problem is that against someone good those become sort of a non-issue: he will be very careful in not being too unbalanced in any given spot; he will bluff more when he has a lot of value hands and vice versa. Even if someone has a leak in some area it takes tons of showdowns before we can realize it.

What ansky says is true and I agree with it in general but as you say different situations can change my opinion.
There are 3 considerations that I can think of right now when considering the idea of "one bluff catcher is as good as another" vs "just bluff catch with the top of my range"
1. Is my "bluff catcher" ahead of only bluffs or is it ahead of some of the value hands?
2. Does my bluff catcher reduce a significant number of combinations of my opponent's potential value range?
3. How far towards "the top" of your range do you go/how often will you to have the top of your range in this scenario/how many combos of bluffing hands is he likely to have?
Think about those 3 considerations and let me know if you want me to expand on those. Hopefully you see why those ideas in #3 get lumped together.
Thanks

WOT,
In this spot with 89o, what's the worst hand that you c/call? These spots come up a ton and I find it very hard staying balanced. Knowing what you know about Tony (i.e he's solid and knows what a lot of your range is comprised of in this spot), what sort of range are you c/calling? Do you believe checking a stronger part of your range (QQ+, straights, sets, etc.) is good here and how are you playing blank turns with these types of hands?
Thanks in advance -- your vids are always filled with so much good info and you make DC an awesome place man.

it is a tough spot to balance. Different people try to balance this spot in different ways. This is one of the spots where my approach is to balance by making tougher decisions with weaker hands instead of wasting strong hands. So I'd rather c/c down with 2nd pair or TPNK more often than most instead of risking the loss of a cooler opportunity with 9T. So it would be more of a frequency thing for how often to call down lighter.
if I did check stronger hands though, i'd go ahead and continue to c/c blank turns as I'd want to rep on the turn the same hand i repped on the flop, basically something like I have and I wouldn't want to let tony off the hook from his bluff (by chk/shoving the turn) when he decides to empty the clip.
Thanks for the nice comments about my vids, glad you like them
