Rather than an ICM by hand calculation question, I was wondering if there are any approximate methods you use to estimate your equity risk in-game.
Bones plays step 1's while a DeucesCracked.com member sweats. They discuss adjustments from regular sngs and lategame.
DC and Bones attack Step tournaments. General step strategy, managing step tickets, optimal times to play, payout structure, adjustments, multiple bubbles, moving up and more.

You can only choose between turbos and non-turbos at Step 3. All Step 1s and Step 2s are turbos and all Step 4s, 5s, and 6s are normals. There's one out on Step 4, where you can use the tickets on any tournament that has a buyin of exactly 215$. Also during PCA, they had 700$ direct qualifiers that accepted Step 5 tickets.
I also think you're overestimating on how little do you need as a bankroll. I believe even with a good ROI on the lower levels, but being an underdog at higher steps, playing steps would be pretty much lottery for everyone at Tournament Poker forum.
There are definitely non-turbo steps 1 and 2 on pokerstars as well as higher step turbos.
As far as the bankroll reqs., I agree. I think I posted last year that a good sng/satellite player would prob need 8k or so to be even money to win a seat. I still feel that way. I don't think steps are a great way to make 12k or whatever it is, but I think giving yourself 100bi at the lowest level gives you a fighting chance to make a run at some of the higher steps.
As for the skill level disadvantage you may face at higher levels, well I guess that's my job to help you guys out with that through this series.

I should always check what I say. Yes, you are right here and there are turbos and nonturbos for every step now. I believe that was different before (like before this year's PCA) and Euro steps still are.

The approximations I use would be pretty hard to quantify without examples. I guess a lot of it comes with experience, but it's mostly just getting a rough estimate of what my current equity is/likelihood of moving up or staying in the same step and comparing it to how it would change if I won or lost an amount of chips in a situation.
An example would be if stacks are
7k
4k (me)
800
with 2 getting seats. If the 7k stack jams, what kind of hand would I need to call? You don't need to do an icm calculation to see that I need to be ridiculously tight in this spot.
wtf another series? how do you fit in time for eating/sleeping bones?

Hi bones,
upper left corner. You got KJ and Toppair. Can you explain your fold? Thanks.

Given the stack sizes and the payout structure, I felt like I was in a good enough situation to where I could fold and still get 1st/2nd a great majority of the time. I wouldn't fold a set here or anything, but I think KJ is behind enough of the time to warrant a fold in this particular spot with these stacks.

What does that say about Bosoxx34? j/k...I'm sure in the general sense, players who make their SN their favorite sports team does not think of poker as a strategy game ![]()
Why fold the A6o vs someone who is this loose on table 1 ?
I think it's sorta close, but again there's less importance on accumulating all of the chips and more on surviving. fwiw i think this is only close in step 1 and in the other steps it's almost always a fold due to more spots paid.
Ok and in a regular STT ? (50/30/20)
Snap call vs. anyone aggressive
So where the heck do you find these on stars anyway? I checked all I could yesterday and the WSOP isn't in the events tab. Only steps I could find were PCA.
The early steps are all the same (unless labeled otherwise). They haven't posted the step 6 wsop steps yet, but I'm told they will be posted right after the scoop wraps up.
sng -> satellite -> steps
Cool. Would have been nice if that was part of the video
.
Awesome!! Looks like I have another series to watch. I'll be watching / note taking tonight.
Also, Congrats on making Producer bones. I don't know exactly when it happened but it had to be fairly recent. Well deserved imo.

Thanks. I've always considered myself the Timbaland of sngs, now I have an official title to go along with it.

Sick series, will surely cause hardship to my marriage as I am now going to grind steps, thanks bones!
Why isnt the opening theme "step by step" by NKOTB? Copyright issues?
Not sure. I don't think NKOTB would do me like that, but never know I guess.
Hey Bones what do u think of UB steps?? They start at .10 cent. U said start w/ a br of 700.. man im starting w/ 10 bucks.. wish me luck lol

I had this problem with Internet Explorer. No such problems with Firefox.
