Poker Video: Limit Hold'Em by DeathDonkey (Micro/Small Stakes)

Hey Chris, I had a quick question about one of the hands in this video.

~15 you have A9o UTG in a five handed game. You raise and are cold called by a button who you noted to be pretty tight.

You bet, BTN raises, you 3-bet, BTN calls

You said you felt BTN's range was big pocket pairs and big aces. You said you felt your line would allow you to get away some of the time you're up against a big pocket pair.

In the video it seemed you were saying that if he called your flop 3-bet and then raised your turn lead, you would fold, but I'm not sure if that's what you meant or not.

I was hoping you could elaborate on what line by villain would cause you to fold this hand. The problem I'm having is that if you 3-bet the flop and fold to a turn raise it looks like you have bloated and folded.

Edited to add: You probably don't remember the hand...the turn was a 7 and the river was a brick. You bet the whole way for value and got shown AQo. Did you mean certain turn/river combos would lead you to fold? During the video it sounded like you were saying you could get away solely based on the villain's action, but again I could have easily misunderstood.

Hey a blast from the past

Well I have to say based on your reminder of what I said, its a little bit problematic, namely as you correctly point out if I get raised on the turn I'll be getting like 9:1 which is the right price for a 5 outer vs an overpair and then I'll be getting 11:1 on the river that he overplayed something and will have a difficult decision. I will say when I said "big pocket pairs" I meant middle to big, so like 66+, obviously some of which I beat. Thinking back on it, what I said at the time I said intending to be able to fold the turn or river if he raised again, but I realize now at that price it would be a mistake, so basically I think my play was fine but the explanation was a bit lacking. I can definitely see how it would be confusing to put a guy on big pairs and big aces and then just jam on him, but I hope I clarified that I meant middle pocket pairs too and thought I was actually well ahead of his range, just that if he raised again I'd have to re-evaluate.

Thanks Chris, that actually helps a lot. This is a spot where I wouldn't think to 3-bet basically ever, so it was pretty cool to see. I think I understand what you're saying and I really like that your line maximizes value the times you are ahead.
