Nice vid boys.
when you guys talk about 3betting from the BB:
i think a polarized 3betting Range is better in position, because here wbe he is IP he might call 3bets pretty often. so i would rather lean towards a call there with the QTo hand and c/r a lot of boards. depends on his Fto3bet stat(43$% here, so i don't think I'd 3bet polarized here, rather unpolarized if he calls so much) though.
And the dark side captures another rebel ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FokDOhBB9fA
Solid Video. I thought you guys made a good team and were able to bounce topics off each other. I think there is a lot to be said for teaching a solid low variance style and avoiding fancy play syndrome. I could tell Mike was itching to splash around a bit more but I think Surf does an excellent job of explaining how one loose decision often compounds itself into a disaster.
There was a comment about polarizing your 3-betting range from the blinds and I think that depends entirely on your opponent with the conclusion being the higher his fold to 3-bet percentage is the more I favour a polarized range and vice versa. This topic has been beaten to death but I guess it can't hurt bringing it up again.
Anyway, high quality stuff. well done.
I really enjoyed this one. Surfdoc's explanations were great, made everything clear and simple, and Mike asks a lot of good questions. Definitely looking forward to seeing more NL vids from you guys.
Also, don't worry about trying to get through more hands, 10 minutes of play for a 60 minute vid is perfectly fine if it leads to interesting discussions. That's why the style used in the Coaching Tree is so effective; the video is just there to provide starting points for what to talk about, and a lot of the most valuable stuff comes from when the coaches talk about variant lines, "what if" scenarios, etc. and not even the actual action in the video.

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't mean to sound apologetic for not getting in more hands if that is how it came across. I think the spiral discussion is by far the best part as well. There has been times where I have talked with mike, deathdonkey, and others for a 2 hour car ride home from the casino and only dissected ONE hand. There are so many ways to view situations and it is amazing how often you find yourself in a slightly varied spot but you know what to do only because you have already thought through the "what ifs."
Hi, really liked this video, it's very easy to follow your thought process ![]()
As for further episodes, i think a lot of people will agree that it would be nice if you'd make a whole episode about how to play oop, because positional advantage matters so much more in NL, and i think not playing properly oop is the biggest leak for a lot of players, including myself ![]()
Surfdoc,
Great video by the way. I like the fact that you slow it all down and 'get it straight' with all the possibilities so it is easy to understand. So many times I will review other videos where they get a few good points on that hand but they leave me wondering about many additional 'what ifs'. I seemed to not have any with your video. Clear, concise ... but very detailed with what always seemed to include all the relevant issues ... and there are usually many. You guys weren't just trying to pack in as many hands as you could. I also liked the dynamic between you and Mike I. He's got a good eye for things and your 'snap' responses were always on the money ... I felt like Tom Hanks figuring out the Da Vinci Code. Ahhh.
Are you guys doing any more?
Jesus! was it really that good? Nah, just kidding good to see your appreciated.
Very nice Vid guys. Surfdoc's analysis is awesome & very easy to understand. This video is perfect for me since I am coming from more of a LHE background and just started playing a lot more NL fairly recently.
Mike's Q's and input were very good as well. I think that this would be a great series because there are a lot of players like myself that are now playing a lot more NL
Well Done
Very good video! Great discussions!
Please more of these videos from these guys!
Just wondering.. You make an argument that flat calling a raise and raising any flop makes the bluff almost even money, risking $30 to win $29. Aren't you really putting in $7+$30 to win his $7 PFR, his $12 cbet and the $3 blinds, making it 37 to win 22? Do you still prefer this if you're in the blinds, facing a PFR from EP? LP?
