Holla!
Ok -- so in this video I used Mediacoder Ipod Edition which works great for iPods and iPhones, etc. For other formats (Zune, iRiver, etc) I really strongly recommend their other converter, http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/. Both are free, though you'll have to do a bit more legwork for non-iPod friendly versions. I recommended the MP4 download as it's higher quality, lower filesize, and seems to convert in general much better than WMVs. I'd say for just about everyone, MP4s > WMVs to be honest, so definitely use those as your base (I'm going to be doing a series on the further virtues of MP4s in the future so all of you can get them playing in Windows Media Player and more).
This tutorial is meant for any 2 or 4-tabling videos that you'd like to have on your iPod but we haven't converted -- as I explain in the video (and as you'll see), videos that are larger than 1tabling (~800x600) don't look great in the iPod format, but if you want to do the conversion on your own, this tutorial will do the trick for sure.

Thanks for this, I'll be buying a touch today and am looking forward having DC vids in my pocket. On a side note, would anyone recommend getting the 8 gig touch or is that too small an amount of memory?

It will take a bit more to manage for sure.

Honestly, 8gb will be no use if you intend on having music & videos. I have ~100 albums on my touch and it takes up 8GB alone - start adding videos (I am currently working my way through Prison Break & Losts seasons) and it fills up very easily.

This video is grate, nice timing also as I just got my ipod touch from FTP today
btw, is it better to convert the .mp4 files?? I have downloaded all vids in .wmv :S
Either will work (WMV or MP4), but MP4 is better to use in the future rather than WMV. In general WMVs kinda suck, but we provided them for users who only have Windows Media Player 11 and nothing else and want things to work "out of the box." MP4s have better compression and resolution/audio quality and also generally convert a bit more smoothly since they are an open standard, as opposed to WMV which is proprietary.

Hmmm, everything went fine until I went to update my ipod and then recieved a prompt that the video was not copied because it could not be played on my ipod. The other single table vids already converted by DC play fine though. Any thoughts?

Do you have an iPod Touch or an older iPod?

Older model, Rob.
You'll need to make sure you're using settings for resolution that it supports -- the iPhone is higher resolution and has newer software that supports more MP4 settings. May have to google to read up on that (we use mediacoder standard edition so that it's compatible with both iPod and iPhone).

So, just to be clear, the vids here on DC can be conveerted and viwed on alternatives to the IPod, such as the Creative Zen, or the Sansa Fuze?
We do not have DRM, if that is what you are asking.
They definitely can be converted to be used on iPod. I do not know what a Creative Zen or Sansa Fuze is, but since I know our members watch videos on their DVD players, XBoxes, Wii's, iPhones and I have heard members have converted to BlackBerrys, I would say yes.

The Zen and the Fuze compete with the IPod. All are portable music/video players.
If you can watch the DC vids on all of the components that you listed above, Joe, then I'd say that the DC vids can likely be converted to any format necessary. If anyone has used their Zen, or other portable viewer, I confirmation post would be pretty cool. Thanks.

I tried converting a 2-tabling video for Ipod Touch according to the instructions, it went well otherwise but only half of each table is displayed. Any idea on how to get them to show in full?
I've never seen that happen, but I'd look to make sure you don't have "cropping" enabled somewhere.

But the screen of my iPod Nano is only to small for 2 tabling videos! Has anyone an idea??
There's not much you can do about that, 2-tabling videos are going to look very small on *all* screens, especially the Nano.

Make sure that you're syncing your video library manually; I know with my iPhone I had to change it to manual video sync before it would allow me to drag it.

I also just posted this in General Discussion...
I was attempting to download the Mediacoder to convert videos to the iPhone and my security software (AVG) stopped the page from loading. Here is the message:
The page you are trying to access has been identified as a known exploit, phishing, or social engineering web site and therefore has been blocked for your safety. Without protection, such as that in the AVG Security Toolbar and AVG, your computer is at risk of being compromised, corrupted or having your identity stolen. I just watched the ipod conversion video and it appears that this software is needed. Anybody have any ideas?

Make sure you're going to the right Mediacoder page:

Rob, sorry, but one more question...
For iPhone videos, when given the option to download either the full MP4 video or the iPod compatible video, which is better?
I have no idea what the difference is.
Thanks again.

The MP4 is for computers, so it hasn't been formatted/changed for iPhones at all.

Been using this software and its ok. The problem I am having is that the visual is about 1-2 seconds ahead of the audio. What kind of settings can you recommend or how can I solve this problem.
Secondly, are there any other software nowadays that are better? I have this software you recommend on my old laptop, too afraid to install it on my new laptop I use just for poker, is it safe to install mediacoder on to my new lap top? Thank you
