This Series: Movin' on Up

Ever wonder why you can't break into that higher limit you're always taking shots at? FoxwoodsFiend moves up through different stakes of No-Limit, starting off at .5/1 and playing gradually higher stakes. He illustrates the different types of gameplay at each limit while explaining the adjustments players from one level to the next must make in order to be successful in their ascent. FWF talks about the different types of fish and regulars at the varied stakes, plays he would make at one level but not at the next, and touches on which playing styles are more suitable for which stakes. DeucesCracked is going to show you how to make the leap.

Episode Three by FoxwoodsFiend

In this episode, FoxwoodsFiend takes a look back at hands he has played at .50/1 and 1/2 using the hand replayer to give retrospective analysis. He primarily focuses on illustrating certain situations which he would have played differently if he were playing at 2/4 or a higher-stake game. He illuminates concepts from previous episodes through this contrast of different, stakes-dependent approaches to a situation.

On the JT river bluff shove hand vs the straight, I would have liked to hear some discussion on his hand ranges more specifically, since you mentioned he was an 18/12 and then kept making comments about how he might fold a 6. I couldn't think of many hands that an 18/12 calls with oop that wouldn't be a straight/boat.

Good vid though. This has been the best season 2 series by far. I like the 67/33 live play/extensive discussion ratio a lot even if it leaned a bit more towards the live play side in the future Smile.

lol with the JT river bluff, "with A Strait" - who made this converter thing?

Good video so far, I like how you explain the differences from small stakes to high stakes.

Wow, this stuff is soooooo good.

You talk about how general tendencies (calling down lighter, value betting thinner at higher stakes) change your strategy for playing medium strength hands (which is genius btw), but in general it seems like in higher stakes you are trying to manipulate your (thinking) opponents into misreading your action while at low stakes you generally are just trying to bring them along.

Can you discuss "levels" in a future installment and how and when you switch levels in response to your perceived table image and/or specific history with opponents?

Thanks,

Shawn

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. If you elaborate I'll definitely see what I can do to touch on the subject.

Obviously his only trip 6 hand is A6s, I should have been more clear about this. I think his range is heavily skewed towards a straight and I thought I could get him off of it.

I've started this response like 4 times now and I'm having a hard time explaining what I mean so I guess it's no surprise that it wasn't clear the first time.

Simplest way I can put it is: How do you decide when to underrepresent your hand to disguise your strength versus playing straightforward for deception (ie, getting your opponent to think "he's repping a monster, he must be bluffing because his monsters crush this board and there's no way he could expect to extract value from worse hands").

Mainly by playing a lot of hands versus the opponent and knowing how he/she thinks. There's no default assumption like "well here the obvious bluff spots are always interpreted as not bluffs because they're so obvious," you juts have to develop reads.

Just started to get through this series. Your analysis is completely top notch. And I've already seen your Dear FWF series too. This is really good.
