Hey man, what do you think of this hand? am I calling too wide or doing a major ICM mistake here?

Villain so far has started to widen his range, been the chipleader for awhile.

Really standard call, he is the shortest stack and when you call and lose you still have a fair amount behind (so ICM is less important relatively speaking) so unless he is an uber nit this is a pretty clear call
I think you misread his stack size. He is #3 in chips with 21.2bb, #2 has 22bb or and im at 27 or something. Theres a shorty with 12bbs so thats why I was wondering if it was a marginal call icm wise.
Sorry I thought SB shipped into you BvB
That makes more sense now.
Then yeah I might lean towards a fold, firstly because of ICM factors as you said but also just with limited information I think it's better to be on the safer and more cautious side (since players in general often are jamming really tight with 20BB effective, hands like AQ that they don't wanna raise/call). That being said you can of course discount some of the top of his range here. Probably with the limited info we have not going wider than AJs AQo 77+ at a guess, maybe even tighter is better on SNG wiz. Also 20BB is a decent stack so if the other players are pretty weak especially we can do quite a bit with that, like raise/folding and shipping with tonnes of fold equity etc so that's another reason to lean towards a fold.
One of the best series ever made in DC, helped my game alot although i play 45 man. Excellent.
Ty, really appreciate kind comments like that..
Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

Awesome Series!! I especially liked this episode about the best inways to improve. And I (I imagine I am not alone here) never played with the what happens if I fold and sb shoves/ bb calls when deep etc. etc. function in Hem!! I prob have left lots of $$ on the table because of this. I will make sure not to going forward. Thx.
haha thanks, gl sir ![]()
Ok need psychological support i think. So, i am playing the 1.5$ 45 man at PS trying to build a bankroll and i for the first 750 games i am winning with a ROI of about 10%. Suddenly, as if someone turned off a switch, a big downswing ride starts. I cant win any coinflip, i am losing the majority of the hands i am way ahead and people show up with a hand every time i shove. There is nothing i can do to save myself. The final hit came when i finally reached a FT after a long time i get Kings UTG, i raise and a clown with the big stack shoves from MP with.....72off. Of course i call and what a surpise flop 279 TURN 7 RIVER 7. He made a full house and i am out. At this point i reached the devastating 60 BIns downsing and lost all my winnings in just 130 games. I was so frustrated that i conntacted PS for an explanation and got their usual answer. The thing is i am really starting to lose confidence after so many bad beats. Oh and btw 99% of the time i am losing my money from the spewers not the regs. I guess i have to find the courage to start again but its difficult when u are lacking confidence. Any advise would be appreciated.
Sorry to hear that.. Not much I can really say other than just keep playing and eventually things will turn around. You are obviously going to be winning in these games vs. such clowns with 72o etc. Maybe watch Tommy Angelo's eightfold path to poker enlightenment here on dc! gl
Yes Tommy Angelo's is a must at these difficult times, thnx anyways![]()
i know how you feel teoman, i had the same kind of downswing in the 2.50 180 mans, lost about 150 BIs and it just kept going, i couldnt even beat 1.00 STTs i was running so bad. i lost about 20 BIs there and just gave up on that, i decided to go back to the 180 mans and the long story short it does turn around hang in there! (im running at about 100% ROI this month over 160 games [Thanks OMGClayDol) enjoy the rungood when it comes back around!
when you get a bigger stack, 30-40BBs in the mid-late game how do you change your game?
I find myself sitting back alot and tightening up. i really just dont know how it should change my approach.
If anything you can widen up and put a bit more pressure on people. Minraise (and evaluate depending on the player who rejams, your hand, their stack size and so on) a bit wider in some spots, we can definitely afford to raise a bit lighter and make profitable opens especially since we don't really lose fold equity if we are forced to fold to a rejam and so on. But experience will make this better as you will identify spots better (i.e. based on stack sizes, villains behinid and so on) and also if you get flatted you can play postflop a bit better/accordingly to the situation too.
But I would suggest most people should widen up a bit, from experience in coaching a lot of people
A LOT of people tighten up a bunch when they get a big stack because it's comfortable to go ITM etc but this is generally wrong. Your shoving ranges can tighten up a bit since you don't need to consider shoving wider for more fold equity/avoid losing it and so on but you can still open wide!
gl guys
some how i knew you were going to say something about getting more aggressive ![]()
haha thanks alot.
Was looking for general coaching on 2+2 for Micro MTT's and stumbled across your coaching post. Never really thought of the 180's as a good interim.
Watched the whole series this weekend and found it really useful. Some of the spots especially late stage felt a bit uncomfortable at first shoving alot wider than i would normally, but as you state analyzing in poker stove etc this spots become more and more standard.
2 quick questions really:
- What would you consider a good sample size to start to truly understand any leaks
- Single best piece of advice in trying to up the number of tables played at anyone time - Currently playing 4-6 tables.
Great series!
Depends on the game, possibly like at least 5000 to get a good idea of how good you are for 180s, to find out if you are a winner probably less. E.g. 3000 games if you are 30% it's not a good sample to say you are 30% roi long term, but enough to say you are extremely unlikely to be a loser.
Hmm not sure, just keep playing and practicing adding more etc. Stacking makes things easier imo, although at first the jump is pretty hard.
