Thinking ahead like "what do I do if..." helped my game sooo much! You avoid those "braindead" moments where you just look at your screen and see how the timer runs down, actually not thinking and then clicking a button as if a coin decided for you.
Thanks for the great video, I'm excited. Gman reminds me of myself also, he is very logical and detailed. Tony will learn a lot here. I'm looking forward to future episodes?
How come the title here says Real life mid stakes HUNL grinder but the videos themselves say small stakes?
Are you going to play 400NL later? Good luck, Yojimgari
Pretty noob question. Why should you be checking behind the turn on 228A board with an A in your hand??
Gman you're quickly becoming one of the best instructors on DC. Really enjoying this series and loving the way you analyse situations.

At 1hour, you 3bet ATo after youve already 3betted at a pretty high frequency (at least the last couple of minutes). Youre not sure if its ok and Gman says its fine. 1 think Gman forgets to add (imo) is that u almost kind of expect him to 4b bluff, which makes ATo perfectly fine to 3b and shove over a 4b.
Furthermore, great series, only serie im here for this season
im around dc about an year now and this is the first vid where the coach talks about hands from the hero and the villan perspective also... i asked for this approach many times...
tx jman, keep it up!

I think you may have misheard this because nobody really argues this. You may be thinking of the flop where we mention checking back A3 as there are basically less worse hands he can call us with than when we bet AK.

I think this is definetely a valid general point that I might expect a player to be more likely to 4 bet bluff given the history. But I think it would be very close in shoving ATo and I would tend to err towards a fold particularly against this guy. Firstly, I think its kind of far fetched to think that he is extending his value 4bet/calling range to ace 9 and worse. So vs his value range we are behind every hand, and dominated a good ammount of the time (if I pokerstove a pretty wide value range of QQ-77,AJs+,,AJo+ vs our ATo we are a 31% dog.) In terms of preflop equity 109s is 6% stronger than A10o vs this value range.
At this point excuse my math as I've never done these calculations before but am keen to improve my basic theory having witnessed Gman constantly refer back to it (outs, pot odds etc) when explaining seemingly complex decisions.
So vs this range we gain -61.42bbs when he 4bet calling for value. And we win +44bbs when he's bluffing. So I think it works out that he needs to be bluffing about 59% of the time for our shove to be profitable. I don't think this is an assumption we can make considering this guy had played pretty tight/straighforward thus far.
Again feel free to pick apart these numbers as I have really never done poker maths before so they may not be accurate. However, I guess the general point I'm trying to make is that 3 bet/shoving over 4 bet with A10 would take some pretty extreme game flow reads (or tilt) for me to do. Mainly that he can either 4 bet/call with worse (not likely) or is bluffing a huge percentage of the time.
I'm a member on the big 3 training sites and think Gman is easily one of the top instructors out there simply from the level of detail and depth he provides in his analysis. It basically gives those of us who don't have high stake friends to discuss hands with in serious depth with a chance to pick their brain. On that same note it worries me when Gman starts sounding self concious about talking too much in videos since that's the real value of the video. Hell, I wouldn't mind if an hour long video was dedicated to single hands, one hand at a time, that just means great value. I mean, it's not like when talking about one hand for a long time it means talking about one line of thought, it's basically talking about ALL the variables and situations and role reversals possible which has so much long term value to improving ones game. Helluva video.
This is standard Gman. I give up 25.5 minutes to hear about playing AK. Wonderful start to the video. I am tossing the towel in.
Sorry I apologize. It was actually 33 minutes and 45 seconds on GMAN talking about AK. Thanks for the correction Craig.
If anyone is struggling playing AK in position, this is definately a good video. Maybe you should rename the video.
"How to play AK in position"

i like deep theory on every hand if its possible...
im not watchin the vid to find out how hero plays or how the games are running, im watchin to learn as much as possible from gman and the only way to do that is to let him get deep in theory on most hands.
standard spots or not its irrelevant on this stage of the series.

meh i kind of agree with this, i dont want to discourage g man from explaining things because hes obviously pretty intelligent but theres a balance i think he needs to achieve. I think really smart people in general have a tendency to overthink themselves on standardish spots where the evs of all the plays arent that much different. IM a big g man fan but i think that erverything was just a little to drawn out. Its impossible to please everyone and its possible im in the minority on this one, still pretty good video regardless.

There was a little miscommunication on the title of the series. But ya Tony will likely be playing 200NL exclusively in both videos and sweat sessions

Tyty. And thanks to everyone else who chimed in saying they are enjoying the series. I know the feedback hasn't been all positive, but I'm learning that you just can't make everyone happy when it comes to making videos.

Yup, yup
If you guys would like to know what I had in some spots hit me up.
cheers
Finally got around to checking watching this one, and I have to concur that Gman's in-depth analysis is top notch. In a game as dynamic as HU NLHE, the thought processes and caveats deserve this kind of deep analysis and you've delivered them well.
Thanks Gman, looking forward to more
"but I'm learning that you just can't make everyone happy when it comes to making videos."
I guess this was directed at me. You spend over half the video talking about playing AK in position (the very first hand) and you want everybody to say great job? Your last series, every other sentence started off with "when you have 2 great players". Sorry if I enjoy hearing people not full of themself (Wiltontilt and JK3A among the few). I wont waste my time on any of your other videos, you egomaniac.
It's okay if you want Gman to take the videos in a different direction. Your preferences are different and that's fine. Many posters including myself prefer Gman's style and are really learning a lot from his comments. The majority are approving of this style and the series will continue on in this format. When people make a video, not everybody is going to be happy. As far as the egomaniac comment I feel that this is definitely inappropriate for the DeucesCracked forums and very disrespectful to Gman. Please post only helpful and respectful responses if you decide to post or go to 2p2/CardRunners if you feel more comfortable in those websites. Good luck, Yojimgari
I didn't really like that fact that you reviewed just few hands in this video and got stuck in simple situations. This is supposed to me about mid/smallstakes, so you don't have to explain in every hand how you would play this in HSNL.
Also Gman, I'm going to stop watching these vids if you say "right" just one more time. Do you have to end every sentence in the word "right"? I'm fairly sure you said the word "right" over 50 times in this vid. RIGHT!!??
In about 14min when you say we should check back Ax on the turn when the board was 228A with a FD, what did you mean? I always bet any Ax on the turn to get value from pairs and FD's. What range of hands would you bet here for value when playing NL100-200 against Loose-passive/Tight-passive/TAG?
Also I didn't understand the point about betting 88 on the 4-straight board. I would rather check the turn and vbet river/call bet. I almost bursted out laughing when the hero got check shipped on the river. I truly didn't understand that hand. Why bet the turn or river?
Sorry for being so brute. I hope you answer my questions and take my critism and improve the quality of the series. Thank you
- LoveisHell
what would you do on a blank river in the AK - A822 hand?? obv the only difference is the hand he actually has (opponent), but is it still a call?? is he really shipping AT-AQ enough (and dont you have to deduct a bit from his range since he would 3bet that quite often..
