the sound it very low, hard to hear
Sthief09 returns with his second episode. This week he covers how to do a session review and then Sthief09 will select a few common mistakes his student is making.
Sthief09 (creator of Professor Plotkin and the +EVolution of a Poker Player) offers his take on this classic fairy tale. Watch Josh transform one of our members thinking about going pro from an ugly duckling to a swan.

This is fucking awesome
Josh, definitely a newb question, but how do I 'mark hands' in HEM so I can review all my marked hands a once like you do early on in the vid?

You just right click the hand, and it's in the long list of options, toward the bottom I think.

When playing: click on the hand and there is a little checkbox in the topleft corner of the hand history. Check this and you have marked the hand.
Awesome feature imo.

Wouldn't a blank low card be better than a second Q to barrel, since our value betting turn range has now been considerably narrowed? Or you assume that villain won't start to make hero call downs without history if he has a made hand, and a bet can still be +ev because a good portion of his range are still draws without showdown value?

I most of the time make kind of the opposite reasoning on A high board against droolers and I rarely follow through on the turn. Since they play 50%+ of the hands is pretty sure to say that they are never folding any ace preflop, so in this case for a player whose VPIP is 54%, almost 1/3 of his preflop calling range is an Ax type of hand. Therefore unless villain is peeling flops extremely light, but gives up to further aggression on the turn most of the time, I don't think two barreling A high boards against bad players with little equity is going to show a profit in the long term.

If I see villains stats in this hands he seems to be somewhat of a maniac fish. Isnt cbetting only 6,50 into 8,50 on the flop somewhat of a mistake? He is probebly not paying attention that much and just playing to many hands and overplaying them? I would just pot this.
On the turn you are left with a shitty stacksize. If we consider the flop play villain should be happy with his hand. Isnt he betting 100% of his range on the turn if checked to and thus making a check/raise better then betting ourselfs?

True.

If he has a made hand, we'll get the money in no problem whether we bet the turn and river or check-raise. However, if he has a draw, I think we run a serious risk when checking to him. He wasn't completely crazy in the video.

If he doesn't believe us, he has to either have a hand strong enough to call, or has to be willing to bluff-raise us. If he’s not willing to bluff-raise us, then the Q skews his range much more toward hands that can’t call. A T or better will call or raise, but flush draws, straight draws, floats, possible bottom pairs will be in difficult position. Pocket pairs may feel they’re ahead more often, but the Q makes them more vulnerable to T pairing and getting counterfeited.
If our image is bad, or he's aggressive and will raise those draws and pocket pairs, then we shouldn't bluff here and instead bet more hands for value, like JJ if you're ordinarily check it vs. him. Adam had a pretty clean image throughout the session though.

Sure, they play lots of hands and more Ax hands, but they’re playing more small suited or connecting cards so proportionately he won't have too many more Ax hands in his range. Plus, if he’s calling lots of flops, it means he has lots of middle and bottom pair hands, weak draws, and I even see players like this call with hands like QT-high on A high boards. So when the J comes, unless he’s very loose on the turn (sometimes you have to figure this out the hard way) the majority of his hands will fold.
I’m not saying to indiscriminately 2-barrel these boards. However, think about what the turn range looks like for a guy playing 60% of hands preflop and calling 60% of flops. The amount of top pair hands he can have is very small compared to all the 42s and 64o that flopped bottom pair or a weak gutter. If you're firing away preflop and on the flop and then going into check-fold mode, you're playing into these players' strategy. Often you have to go 0 or 2 barrels vs. them to be most effective.

I recently found a mic setting on my computer that was all the way down. the next episode MIGHT have slightly low audio, but after that it should be loud and clear.
