That guy is vicious!

I always used to get pumped about a bassist names Billy Sheehan! Watching the below video makes me laugh I used to have such a man crush on both those guys they are uber talented.

Here is a link if anyone wants to hear an intense bass solo.

What a fuckin' machine.

Also Matt Bellamy from Muse deserves a mention. Apart from being a brillant guitar and piano player his voice should be counted as an instrument as well Smile

I'm mostly a guitar-guy, so I'll have to say Steve Vai. So much more than just awesome skill and technique..

+1 to Billy Sheehan

There is also some great Youtube-artists out there.

Oh, and my friend's brother too Grin

What about JT (John) Johnson (aka Tom Malone) from Frank Zappa & The Mother's of Invention "Freak Out!". Or Malcolm McNab & George Callender from "Hot Rats" - they both were on it but neither made the credits. I'll die by that urban legend. You must trust me on this tuba knowledge.

. . . tell me about tuba players, I'll show you a weasel eat my flesh, grrrr . . .

Dennis Chambers is sick on the drums:

Victor Wooten is a god of the Bass guitar:

With Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (this one is really heavy on him and it's fucking amazing):

Vic has played two modern 6 string bass guitars holding them both only by the neck in each hand and just tapping. He's also played a song, tuned the bass to drop D for a verse then back to normal again without stopping the tune. Dude is just not real.

I'd say Vic is my all time fav, lots of other notables out there though obv.

For bass, I'd have to say Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Larry Graham, Les Claypool, Flea, Jaco, and Juan Alderete from The Mars Volta. Smile

I also think that Prince is one of the most underrated instrumentalists ever.

Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) is an absolutely incredible musician.

Blake Richardson (drummer for Between the Buried and Me) also.

+1 to David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and George Harrison.
