I see that the prospect of purposely causing your opponent to tilt is a taboo subject. However I believe this is an ability that the very best poker players possess. I know Doyle Brunson preaches to always be a gentleman at the table and I agree with him, but I bet a dollar to a dime a lot of his winnings came as a result of him tilting his opponents with his LAG style of play which was uncommon back in the days. How would you like a perfect gentleman 3 betting you every time you tried to open a pot? If you have a solid read on your opponent and you 3 bet them relentlessly and are taking pots away from them (you are outplaying them and causing them to tilt). You are doing it on purpose. Now for the ethical question. If two opponents are evenly matched poker skill wise, but you know your opponent will go on tilt if you take just a little bit longer than him to act on every street especially the river, would you do it? Is it right to do it? We are trying to beat them out of their monies. Right? You are a DC member and have watched Tommy Angelos videos and have a good mindset and methods for handling tilt while your opponent doesn't. Sooo.... Feel free to bash me on this one. Just interested in your thoughts about this.

There's a huge difference between tilting someone by out playing them, and tilting someone by being a dick.

We are human. We are going to tilt. Period.

Why is dealing with it by trying to turn the other cheek and ignore the guy better than trying to deal with it by trying to one-up the guy? Maybe trying to even make it a little bit fun?

Sure, maybe we waste a bit of time and energy doing it, but it seems like trying to constantly bottle up the things that bother you, or even dealing with them internally through self-dialogue and such, could be just as harmful.

Finally, EV is a measure of dollars and cents. Life is not measured by this same standard, and indeed no two persons measures will be the same. Maybe, even if we are sacrificing some EV, it is worth it to OP.

Why not just fuck his wife? Then next time you get in a big pot on the river... say you got your hands on a big pair... then at showdown flip up a naked photo of his wife. That'd really piss him off.

But then you'd probably get shot with a gun and that hurts your EV.

The one time in my life that I have intentionally slowrolled someone was after he had been acting like a dick the whole night. Me and him heads up, flop comes A66, we get it in on a blank turn, he flips over AA,
everyone's all like "wow, awesome, good hand"

I wait exactly five seconds, say "Not good enough" and flip 66 ftw. Bricks were shat.

OP, I say if it's all or even just mostly in good fun, go for it. I wouldn't do it in the biggest pot either of you have ever played, but at least in one big enough to be memorable and in a situation where you can expect he'll take it well (or get over it quickly enough if he doesn't).

This kind of thing is part of the game, like it or not, though it's not good etiquette, get your "revenge" by not letting it get to you, and by being the bigger man.

I was pleased with myself at the time of the hand. The whole table was getting in this guys face and I was the only person that said that I didn't care and shrugged it off. After he left, everyone at the table says he does shit like that all the time and no one likes him. I figure I can either look like a really good guy by continuing to be his friend and nice.. OR, I have set it up for an epic revenge slow roll due to how I handled myself at the table.

I played with him last night and didn't even think about doing the slow roll, I may even wait a month before I do it, but I am pretty set on doing it. I mostly want to do it because maybe if it happens to him, he will stop doing it. No one plays back at this guy because everyone thinks he is a recovering cancer patient, but really he just has a skin pigment issue and sometimes his skin turns green/grey. He is by far the ugliest person I have ever seen at the table.

What if the river had been a queen, would you be looking for revenge then?

While plotting to slowroll him isn't a great idea imo, I don't think you have to continue being his friend. If it comes up in conversation and he asks why you're giving him the cold shoulder, tell him it's because he acts like a dickhead at the table. I think that route (rather than the "epic slowroll") has a lot better chance of getting him to change his behavior.

Wait untill you have the nuts in a huge pot and he raises you on the river with more $ behind. Tank for ages, then just call and complain about how sick it is that he has the 2nd nuts after he shows etc.
