overall calorie consumption? think of the twinkies diet, you'll lose weight eating anything if its under daily calories intake allowance..

im guessing here of course, just using common sense

also re korean food esp kimchi, hardly any calories at all, thats why theyre so thin, every korean eats kimchi every day you'd have to eat 10kg of kimchi a day to be at calorie intake http://www.caloriegallery.com/foods/calories-in-kimchi.htm

Plus while its made with sugar and spices, it has a lot of good ingrediants too, spices are good for increase in metabolism:

Typical batch of kimchi is made from:
5 cabbages, 2 radishes, 5 cloves of garlics, 5 cups of thick salt, 4 green onions, 1 bundle of dropwort. 3 ginger roots, 300g of mustard leaves, 1/2 cup of fish paste, 2 cups of red chili pepper, 1 cup of sticky rice paste, 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of oysters

anyway thats enough about kimchi, this is High Fat low Carb thread, but surely it fits in the low carb category. Eat it with some samgyupsal (fat pork strips http://www.fatsecret.com/Diary.aspx?pa=fjrd&rid=759085) around a bbq, its great!

Personally I find high protein, high fat with carbohydrate restriction to make me feel best, healthiest, and able to eat fewer calories throughout the day. I just brought the twinkie guy up because you can do it however you want and still lose weight, feeling healthy/being healthy is a different story.

I remember going on weight watchers back in the day and eating crazy carbs, like a big carb muffin for breakfast and being hungry like an hour later. This thing had to have had 400 calories. I could make steak and eggs 400 calories and I'm not hungry for a long time with that kind of meal.

yea that's what I was thinking but doesn't someone on such low calorie consumption feel hungry all the time? Maybe people are too poor to eat more calories or low calories food is just their culture like you said. I not been to Korea (yet) or read about it, so am not too sure.

I was looking at the point made a few days ago about people in Asian nations being generally skinny and eating a load of rice in their diet.
If people in the poorest regions of Asia are primarily eating rice why aren't we seeing an obesity epidemic? Similar to when native Americans were put into the reservations and had to live off US government grain.

i think it's partly a misunderstanding of what overweight looks like with asian genetics. the arms, legs, and back don't usually show it until severe obesity. extra weight is usually only noticeable in the gut. most middle-aged asian people (men and women) i've ever seen have a gut. and the fact that asians have smaller builds and are shorter in general also compounds to this belief that asians are healthy and don't put on weight.

and also, rice is one of the less harmful carbs (unprocessed, brown rice being even better). but once you put them on a western diet heavy in cereal grains from birth, a certain % start becoming severely obese (but still with the same limitations of genetics mentioned above), and this is evidenced anecdotally in America today.

There are 671 calories in 1 serving of korean Samgyupsal. Calorie breakdown: 79% fat, 0% carbs, 21% protein. Good?

That sounds like a lot for one serving of anything. 2 of those and you're at 1342 already, over half of a 2000 cal. a day intake. Don't think I've tried Samgyupsal before, but I love kimchi!

i don't ever break it down like this but rather eat a food until i feel satiated and have energy and avoid the carbs. it's very hard (or just tedious) to think of food like this for me.

is this a proper breakdown overall?

fat/carb/protein - 60/10/30

if so, that meal looks awesome.

I've been following my own adaption of primal/paleo on and off for a few months now, I'm a self confessed carb addict and currently weigh 240lb down from 255, I'm sure if it wasnt because of regular excercise I would be 350lb. all my life my diet has consisted of bread, potatoes, pasta and rice and have suffered from stomach problems, lethargy and what I call "foggy head" a difficulty to concentrate.

When I eat carbs I get massive cravings for more and more food, like a drug addict who has to have his next fix, these cravings are almost insatiable and take massive amounts of will power to avoid stuffing more carbs my mouth.

Since converting to a high protein & fat low carb diet I feel like a new man, I feel alert, my really bad gastro oesophagal reflux becomes almost non existant. I tend to have lapses mainly caused by going out for meals with friends and I end up eating carbs that cause cravings and I find myself falling into my old eating habits for the next 48 hours or so until I get myself on an even keel.

I'm at the beginning of my primal journey and want to become fully primal/low carb in the near future.

I tend now to eat 2 meals a day with a snack inbetween. I eat loads of bacon and eggs for breakfast and this tends to fill me until my evening meal which tends to consist of meat and veggies in between I drink decaf coffee with full fat cream and have a handful of almonds or macadamia nuts. If you go low carb make sure you get plenty fat from butter, cream and coconut oil as this is your main source of energy.

yup, carbs make us want more carbs. i just had some coffee this morning with half a teaspoon of suger. my stomach started growling 15 minutes ago and it's not stopping. it only happens when i get cocky and try to sweeten my coffee. Gasp

This thread has really motivated me, I've decided to go all out on LCHF this February to attempt to get rid of my beer gut. I've just taken a before pic front and side so if it goes well I'll report the difference.

I'm planning on consuming any combination of Eggs, Samgyupsal Pork, Beef, Chicken, Duck all cooked in butter, EVVO or in their own fat. Fish, Oysters, Shrimp, Abalone and sea shells, both raw and cooked. Cheese and onions grilled randomly. Olives, Nuts and raisins for snacks. Sides of Kimchi, Lettuce, Spinach. Condiments of Black Pepper, Garlic plus a bit of Ketchup for food. Along with Squeezed Lemon added to water, Apple Cider Vinegar added to water, Water, Green Tea, Black Coffee (sometimes with cream) for drink, every day as much as I feel like eating and drinking.

I will take a multivitamin supplement too.

I will not be drinking any beer or high carb drinks whatsoever. If I drink any alcohol it's going to be either Bloody Mary, Wine or Jack-Daniels-DietCoke.

To be honest this doesn't even seem like a tough thing to do, all of those foods I already eat and love the taste of. I will post results end of Feb.

Let me know if any of the food list is inappropriate.

I've been cutting down heavily on the carbs for the past couple of months, results are good but I'm not sure how much this can be attributed to the low carb aspect of my new diet or just cutting out the processed crap.

What's you guys feelings on breakfast cereals? I don't mean the sugar coated crap of course. What about:
a) Oatmeal
b) Muesli
c) 100% Wholegrain cereals like shredded wheat.

I usually have one of the above along with a protein shake and a piece of fruit.
The rest of my diet is mostly fresh fruit & veg, steak, pork and fish.

I love bacon/sausages but honestly my mornings are so hectic I just don't have time to prepare and eating them every morning would probably turn me off them.
Don't say eggs because I just can't eat them, I'm no fussy eater but I'm 100% sure that and the rest of humanity has fallen for some huge scam

Shredded wheat is probably bad (wheat = bad), but oatmeal is better. IDK about museli.

I love these 3 foods but just can't eat them any longer mainly as they bloat me and and cause cravings, of the 3 prolly oatmeal in moderation. when I'm in a rush in a morning I eat a handful of almonds or macadamias and swallow a teaspoonful of coconut oil.

The oecd has done studies of obesity by country using BMI as the measure. They back up the anecdote about Korea and Japan having very low obesity rates. Lots of online resources link this, but The economist for example is one.
