hello DC. in this new age of increased competition, everybody's looking for that extra edge. your diet and energy levels during sessions could be something you're overlooking.
i'm a self-professed body hacker. i was a big participant in the Primal Blueprint thread. and i was a skinny guy who was getting a gut from eating "healthy foods" in my 30's. but LCHF (low carb high fat) eating has made it easy to lose the pudge and maintain my weight and energy levels while also lowering my food cravings, and it's going on a year now. i can't think of eating any other way anymore. if you haven't heard, the following video is a great primer.
The Food Revolution - Ancestral Health Symposium 2011
[fyi, i was not paid by the American Cattlemen Beef Association for this post]
[also, if any participants from the Primal Blueprint thread would update here on what they think of low carb/paleo eating now (pros or cons), that would be cool too]

Pretty interesting man, I'm in pretty good shape and have a bit of belly pudge that refuses to go away.
I find it hard to keep up my energy level's so maybe this could be good for me. However the low carb part might be hard for me with the amount I work out.

I'm doing almost the exact opposite at the moment. Because of a health problem I can't eat any foods with more than 5% fat (don't even ask). Since being diagnosed I've had to change my diet radically (obviously) and have lost a huge amount (70lbs or so) and am in the best shape of my life.

crossfit guys are big into paleo/low carb eating. and those guys are brutes.
you only really need carbs for extreme endurance sports anyway. i run up to 5 miles but feel fine without any extra carbs. i usually don't even eat before my running workouts anymore, whereas before i *had* to eat something or else i wouldn't have any energy. your body will change where it gets energy from, and there's about a 4-10 day transition period from what i remember personally. i'm at around 50g carb intake a day now, btw. some days less, some more. it's not a "diet" per se, it's just how i eat now.
and just to dispel the running connection or some newfound health kick, i ran more before on a high carb diet and had more body fat than now.
your body basically goes to its "normal" form. it's kind of hard for most people to grasp nowadays since they think "normal" for a 30-something guy is a little bit of stomach fat. that's not normal.

did you increase your carb intake while lowering fat intake? or did you also lower your calorie and carb intake as well?
how do you feel if you haven't ate in 4 hours?

So this is just a keto diet then?
Generally has more carbs (and protein?) than keto. Also some paleo people have a glycogen loading day (eating anything you want) every so often to avoid ketogenesis and various other positive effects (thyroid function, insulin sensitivity, etc).

if you wanna call it Keto or Paleo or Atkins or South Beach or Banting dieting, that's just a label. it's all the same thing for practical purposes imo. i'm not too picky on the sources of those fats and proteins anymore since that's more of a philosophical debate than nutrition.
i just like LCHF since it describes the diet as it is without any commercial purpose. the main similarities are avoiding excess carbs--white flour and sugar--and eating fats and protein so you don't feel hungry.

actually, i live on McDoubles (i just pick off most of the bun as i'm eating it). and i love Popeye's fried chicken (about 10g carbs per piece). people probably think i have freak genetics or run marathons everyday if they see me eating in public.

Ive been eating Doner Kebabs (british style) almost daily. I just eat the meat and salad and then drain off the rest of the lamb fat by tipping the pitta bread over my mouth. I always throw the drained pitta bread away.
I feel great athough my GF says i smell like sh*t.

Definitely not keto. Just less carbs & generally slower absorption. Carbs are also generally thought of as ok within 30min of explosive workouts (during glycogen refueling phases).
